HP OFFICEJET PRO 8740
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

We purchased Officejet Pro 8740 and to date have not got the fax to work.  Cannot find your support number for assitance.  Have tried the various things on the website.  I am using the phone cable that came with the printer but it is 4 conductor rather than 2.  Have called Maplins and various others to try and get a 2 Conductor phone cable but has not been possible.  I have called your sales line on numerous occassions and they try to put you through but the phone is continuously engaged.  They gave me a direct line number to call but the phone just rings and rings and then stops.  It is so frustrating that you spend so much money on purchasing the product and not able to use it.  CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE GIVE ME THE SUPPORT NUMBER TO CALL - ON THE WEBSITE I KEEP GOING THROUGH A LOOP!!

Thank you for your question.  I would like to understand some aspects of the issue more.

Printer:

-Have you tried running the fax test? If yes, does it indicate any errors? For example, does it say that you are using an incorrect type of phone cable?

-When trying to send fax, what error specifically do you see from the printer's control panel? Does the printer dial out and say "no answer" or "busy"?

Telephone line:

-Is your telephone line an analog or digital line?

-Was an old fax machine/printer previously attached to this telephone line, and did fax work?

-Does the telephone outlet have 2-lines associated with it?  One of the uses for the 4-wire cable is to have one pair for first line and another pair for the second.

Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
