I just purchased this printer in January, and when trying to install the printer to work via USB cable, I get this error. The printer works fine if I connect wirelessly or with a network cable. It's only when I want to connect via USB that it doesn't seem to work. I tried installing the software directly from the CD, as well as I downloaded the most recent drivers and tried like that. When I plug the printer into windows, it doesn't even show up in the device manager and when I try to add a printer from the Devices and Printers section, it won't detect the printer. Please advise. I've attached the error.

Hi Zepholos,
Thanks for your screenshot. It was very helpful.
I would suggest restarting your printer by unplugging it and uninstalling any HP printer drivers on your computer from the previous attempts before trying to install it again.
You also may want to disable your AVG anti virus software for the duration of the installation.

From what you mentioned, the only thing I didn't do what try running it with AVG disabled. So now I tried that and I still get the same error. I unplugged the printer and left it off for a couple of minutes.
One thing I forgot to mention is that when I have the USB cable plugged in to both my computer and printer, you can see a usb icon in the system tray flashing on and off as if someone were plugging in and unplugging the cable. Because the icon is going in and out so fast, I can't even click (or right click) on it.
