Example: Officejet Pro 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had been using a device called "The Stick" that allowed me to use a telephone and answering machine along with the fax printer to allow incoming calls to be routed to the telephone if it was not a fax, or to be routed to the answering machine if the non-fax call was not answered, or to be routed to the fax printer if the incoming call was a fax. I have removed the device called "The Stick" and I am asking if the Officejet Pro 8600 has the ability to perform the call answering functions to route an incoming Fax call to the fax printer, or to routh the call to the telephone if it is not a fax call and then route it to an answering machine if the telephone is not answered.

My previoud configuration with The Stick did perform these funcitons but stopped working when I switched to a Spectrum account. I'm wondering if the fax printer can perform these functions or do I need to reconfigur the setup of the Stick to regain this functionality?

@Bob_on_Empire,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you want to set up your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer to receive fax and calls accordingly to the printer and phone.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: Setting Up the All-in-One to Send and Receive Faxes

Note: Please follow the steps under Shared voice/fax line in the above link.

Also, let us know if you are using your computer to connect the internet on the same line or it is just a voice and fax line.

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

The phone line I am using for the Officejet Pro 8600 is a separate line from our home phone line, but I do use it frequently for out going calls when the primary phone line is tied up. I was able to resolve my problem with the help of the manufacture of "The Stick". The problem I had with not being able to receive faxes with the Stick in place was because I incorrectly counted thr rings before the fax printer took control from the Stick as part of the" number of rings" before pickup programmed on the fax printer. Thinking my three preliminary rings were part of my six post pickup rings was incorrect. I was getting my three pre-pickup rings but also six post-pickup rings, too many for a fax to be recognized. We changed the Stick to have two pre-pickup rings and then when the fax printer got control, set the number of rings to two. That was good for receiving faxes AND if no fax was being sent  but was voice instead, the attached phone would ring followed by the attached answering machine finally kicking in. All is fine now, Thank you for your response.
