Hello Everyone,
I have an issue that my front panel scanning button is not working.
I have an HP Officejet 4500 G510a.
I have configured the front pannel button to scan to a PDF file throught the shortcuts settings in the HP Solution Center software.
For some reason when I want to see what's configured on the printet throught the software it doesn't show the shortcuts configured on the right side of the settings window.
It only shows it on the left side and I have to mark whatever shortcuts I want and then press the right arrow for them to be added to the printer and Sync the configuration to the printer.
I am running a windows 7 Ultimate PC and the printer is connected through USB to the PC.
My HP Solution Center software I installed thorugh the CD provided with the printer.
I have to add that whenever I press the scan button on the front pannel of the printer it says "starting scan" but never starts. After about 1-2 minutes it says that the printer is not connected to the PC which of course is not true since I can print and scan through the HP Solution Center.
I need your help guys please ASAP 🙂
Thank you very much,
Lior
P.S - I just formatted my PC to have Windows 7 on it. Before that I had windows XP and it worked there just fine.

Hi,
This normally occurs when the scan to options are not set on the computer. I request you to open this link in a browser and then follow the steps given in the docuemnt. This will hopefully resolve the issue.

First of all, I apologize you are having issues.
I would start by running the Print and Scan Dr. It can fix a lot of these issues easily for you.

Hi Guys,
I tried everything you suggested and nothing works!
I have also tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor which continuasley shuts dows while in progress...!!!
I am now clueless!!! I have tried many things and nothing seems to work.
I can scan from the PC but can't scan using the front panel buttons. It always gives me a message saying "there is no computer connection" whenever I try scanning from the front panel.
When I scan from the computer everything is fine.

If you are unable to scan from the printer, do you have "scan to PC" options at all on the printer?
When you go to Solution Center, do you see multiple printers in the left-hand side of the screen?
Do you have multiple copies of your printer in your Devices and Printers folder?
How long is the USB cord?
You may need to go into Scan Destination Options in Solution Center and add front panel options. Do you see the scan destination table? I will try to post a picture of what I see when I set up these buttons. I hope this helps you! If not, answer those questions for me please.

From my understanding, you are having problems with your scan to options saving. I searched Solution Center vehemently, looking for settings to assist you. Here is a list of the steps I took, including pictures:
Step 1:Front Panel Scan Buttons. If you have selected for prompt settings at time of scan, see if disabling will help you save them, to eliminate the options resetting themselves. If you have not selected this, select it to see if this helps.
Step 2: Move options from left to right using the add button and then Update the Device. Power down the printer and computer and come back to this to see if the settings have saved.
Step 4: Ensure your destination folder has been set for a file on your computer (I prefer my desktop).
Step 5: After setting the Save To destination folder, options will appear under that button. By making this your default setting when you scan, this may help the scan settings to stay in place.
I hope this helps!
