Hi RockinRay,
I see that everytime you turn on your OfficeJet 6500 you get a pop-up wanting to install GPBase Service 2.msi. After some extended research I have found 2 possible solutions for this error you keep receiving, the first recommendation is to do a Clean Boot- To help troubleshoot the interference, you can start Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
My second recommendation after seeing other thread resolutions is to uninstall and reinstall the HP software associated with the OfficeJet 6500, after an uninstall and restart you should not see the pop-up again.
I hope this was helpful, please let me know if you require more assistance.
Thanks,

Hey RockinRay,
Your welcome, that is not a problem at all, that is what I am here for. I am leaving you with a very informative video, click here: How to do a Clean Boot, you can make the video Full Screen by clicking on the little square in the bottom right hand corner. Please see image:
What is a clean boot?- When you start Windows by using a normal startup, several applications and services start automatically, and then run in the background. These programs include basic system processes, antivirus software, system utility applications, and other software that has been previously installed. These applications and services can interfere when you install a program or an update or when you run a program.
It may help your performance on the computer as it allows you to select what you want to auto start up.
I found this information from Microsoft Support.
Please let me know the outcome. 🙂
Thank you,

I think our best bet from here is to uninstall and reinstall the OfficeJet 6500 software and drivers. Which Operating system are you currently running e.g Windows Vista, 7 or 8? Do you have the software cd that was shipped with printer? I ask because we could download the software from the HP Website, however with the dialup connection it may take a little longer than usual. Please let me know what you would like to do, I will watch for your reply.
Thanks again! 🙂

Hevn. I have Windows XP Home as operating program. I'll have to look for the HP CD software. I'm pretty sure I have it.
I'll be watching for your reply. Thanks for your help.
I used the printer yesterday and forgot to turn it off. I shut down the PC. This morning when I booted up,... the printer was still on in a standby mode. As soon as I tried to boot up the PC the pop-up started to appear repetedly. I had to cancel the pop-up at least 5 or 6 times. I turned off the printer and the pop-up stopped.
Again , Thanks for your help.

Hey Ray,
Ok, we will start with the uninstalling of the OfficeJet 6500 software. I would like you to go ahead and run the HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility (please click on the blue link): This Software and Driver Removal Utility is intended for users to remove the HP software from their system. Once you have opened the utility please select Option 3.
Now to make sure we have removed all software and drivers, I would like you to go into your control panel and make sure it is all pulled out, please follow the steps listed below:
Go to your Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Here you will see the list of installed programs, click on the OfficeJet 6500 software (if any) highlight > Remove.
We can now do a restart on the Computer. Once you have completed these steps we can start installing. Were you able to find the CD? I think we should do the software download, as it will have all the current software and updates available.
So Ray, from you I need the exact model number of your OfficeJet 6500, please click here to find out:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
Am I safe to assume you have a USB connection to the 6500? If so, please disconnect the USB plug while uninstalling and do not plug it back in until advised.
Remember I am only a post away, if you need clarification or further assistance. I will wait for the requested information so we can start with the install.

Hevn. Been away most of the day so its late in the evening. The model number for the 6500 printer is E709A. I found that inside the access door to the printer cartridge compartment. Is that the correct number? if not tell me where to look. The link you sent was not for the printer but for PC. The serial number is[Personal Information Removed]. That's on the back of the printer.
How big is the file to re-install using the download method. My PC is very slow. I think download is about 5 to maybe 8 kb.
Does that sound right? I do have the software starter CD that came with the printer. I guess that's the one you were refering to in your previous message. I have not done anything as of now and waiting to hear back from you on the info I just gave you.
Thanks soooo much for your patience with me.

Hey RockinRay,
Yes the E709a is the correct number, thank you for that. The full feature software and drivers file is 332.49M, and the version is 14.0.0, please look on your CD and see what version number you have. If you have the same version then we can use the CD for the install, which will save us some time. I will be available all day until 4:30pm EST, and am confident we can get this fixed. 🙂
I will be watching for you,
