Just a note to thank you for your efforts and instruction.  While the exact procedure that you described did not work for me, your theory did.  I went throught the folder and started installing all the exe files.  Then the Installer took off and completed.  I got the basic to install and it works so I quit there.

Thanks again.

Hi all, had just the same issue when trying to install HP LJ 1536 on a particular PC(DELLOptiples 790 OS: Windows 7 64-bit)  and everytime getting the 'Fatal Error' just at 100%.

Tried updating windows; installing on another 64-bit PC and tried printer sharing;unistalled all HP printer server drivers; cleaning registry and all that you know what and still unsuccesfull.

I was opting now to re-install the OS but then I thought of updating the drivers directly from 'Device Manager' and you know what???

IT WORKED BIG TIME!!!

By the way I had it connected via USB cable for t'shooting:

Just go to 'Device Manager'; locate the HP devices(there should be like 3 - PRINT/SCAN/FAX). Right-click on em the select update drivers then selcet the directory where the drivers are(in my cae the DVD Driver (D:)

Thats all there is to it!. Do leave a thread here if it did help you...

CHEERS!..Ta!

Hi, the scan app is in the original installation CD. Locate the executable file on the CD and install the app. After installation it should create a chortcut on the desktop...

Let me know how you go..

The following steps worked for me on 2 different Windows 7 x64 computers that had the Fatal Error with no error code.  I informed HP level 3 tech support of my findings since they had no proposed solutions.

I did these steps with the Basic driver, but I suspect they will work with the Full Driver as well since both installers were giving me the same Fatal Error:

1) Double-click the setup file that you downloaded from HP to start the installer.  (hp_M1530_MFP_Basic_usb_n_w.exe)

2) While the installer is open, go to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Temp

3) Find the temporary installation folder and copy it to your desktop.  Mine was called 7zS3F94.

4) Cancel or close out of the installer that you started in step 1.

5) Inside of the temporary installation folder that you copied to your desktop, run the following installer: Setup\Product\Scan_App\HPScanLJM1530.msi

6) The HPScanLJM1530.msi installer completes quickly and silently (i.e. no window pops up to confirm that it's done)

7) Now Run the Setup.exe file in the root of your temporary installation folder.  The installer should now complete without the fatal error.

This worked perfectly for me on Windows 7. I was able to find the most recent folder in the Temp directory, copy entire directory to desktop and simply run Setup.exe. Thanks STCSpencer!
