I would be grateful for your assistance. I am running the Windows 10 64 bit operating system on an Asus N550JV laptop and my laptop will not recognise that my HP P2055d printer is connected when connected through a USB cable.
I have two HP printers, this P2055d and an MFP127fn.
The latter works OK also through a USB cable. I also have a Cannon MX510 which works through the USB cable.
The P2055d is installed on the computer, it is found by HP print and scan doctor, but when I try to access it through print and scan doctor I am told the printer is not connected.
Things I have tried that don't help it print:
I have installed the printer drivers both using the disk which was provided with the printer and from the HP website.
I used add devices and printers in Windows control panel, it isn't detected.
The P2055d is set to print in offline mode
I have tried connecting the printer to other USB ports. Iin fact I have tried it in all the ports in my laptop and the P2055d isn't detected anywhere. Conversely I have use other printers in these ports and they are detected.
I changed the cable.
I have used the P2055d on other computers via the USB cable, it works OK
I have tried deleting and reinstalling the P2055d multiple time. I have also tried deleting and reinstalling the USB ports
I have run several diagnostic programs which don't detect any errors.
Most recently I downloaded the universal print driver 6.2.1.20636 from 2 May 2016. I managed to get this to install and communicate in some way with the printer but when I get the error message 49 ERR 3D90A44 which has been reported on these forums but I can't find a solution.
There seems to be a firmware update which I cannot install because the laptop doesn't detect the printer.
I would be grateful for some assistance
Thank you

Next thing I would do is find another machine to test that printer on even if it'd be picking up the printer and taking it somewhere else so I can plug it into a friend's PC.
You may be facing a hardware failure and testing it on another machine will let you know if the printer is defective.
If my post resolves your issue please click the accepted as solution button under it.
To thank a Tech for a post click the thumbs up button under the post.
You can even click both buttons. . .

Thanks SHT.
Your logic is impeccable .... I tried the printer on several machines and it works fine with all except mine so that suggests that it isn't a hardware failure with the printer.
Equally I tried other printers (and other USB devices) on my machine and they work fine also, so that suggests there isn't a hardware failure with my laptop either.
I also changed the cable in case it was a cable failure, but doesn't help.
I accept your point about setting the printer to print in offline mode but the problem is that since my laptop doesn't detect that the printer is connected to the computer it stays as showing offline all the time.
I have tried all the obvious things (updating drivers, deleting and reinstalling the printer, using different ports, changing the settings etc) and I can only conclude there is some setting which I haven't found which prevents the laptop detecting this particular printer. So if you have any suggestions it would help to prolong my life significantly.

Hi AK,
Your printer printed ? If no, I will help you.
Before begin, you need search and download driver file “upd-pcl6-x64-6.0.0.18849.exe” (can search on Google).
Then you try:
- Turn off printer.
- Go Control Panel\Devices and Printers, select “Remove Device” all printers (HP P2055d).
- Go Control Panel\Programs and Features, uinstall/remove all programs (HP).
- Restart computer.
- Run file “upd-pcl6-x64-6.0.0.18849.exe”, select “USB mode plug and play” (in “Devices and Printers” windows with made 02 printers “HP P2055d PCL6” and “HP Universal Printing PCL6”).
- Go “Devices and Printers” again, select “Remove Device” both printers “HP P2055d PCL6” and “HP Universal Printing PCL6”.
- Restart computer again.
- Turn on printer and wait windows find and know your printer (if windows know your printer is “HP Universal Printing PCL6” is success).
I hope this helps.

Thank you for the suggestion.
However part of the issue is that my computer does not recognise that the printer is connected via the USB cable, at which point the installation comes to a stop.
I have basically concluded that HP printers just don't work with the combination of an Asus laptop running windows 10

Hi AK,
Thanks replied, if so, you try go Control Panel/Devices Manager, see any devices (USB 2.0/3.0 port, ...) windows don't know (has jellow icon) ? If yes, I must search dirvers and install them before do steps install driver for your printer.
Note: After upgrade or update, can some devices windows 10 don't auto know.
If you require further assistance, be sure to let me know.

Hi AK,
I used this printer with Windows 7, 8 and 10 (x64) now. When I upgraded to win 8, after is win 10 and saw this problem ("49 err"). But it still 's working fine now. I helped somebody and their printer woked fine.
You can see my posts sent to “Makyamani” and “Juissi”:
My solution is install by old driver for HP Laserjet P2055d ("18849" verson).
If you no success with "20636" and "18849" drivers, you can try continue with other drivers on:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/UPD/
Good luck!
