HP Deskjet 3051A
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Installed new internet service with Time Warner. They installed a ubee modem/router model # DDW365. I am unable to connect my HP Deskjet 3051A printer to the wireless network. The wireless network test results states that MAC address filtering may be enabled on the wireless router. I have had Time Warner log in to see if it is. They stated it is not. I have since learned how to log in to the router myself. Not only is MAC address filtering disabled, I have also added my printers Mac address to the list of permitted devices as a fail safe. After several attempts, the same error is shown.

I went through the wireless router install link you posted. It was no help. To add to my previous post, I have several other devices (2 rokus, 3 smart phones and 2 laptops) that are succesfully connected to the wireless network. My printer is the only device that will not connect to the wireless network. I have been through the setup utilities several times. I have downloaded the HP print and scan doctor - no help. I have tried connecting using the WPS method - will not connect. I was previously using Century Link internet service where my printer was succesfully connected. Further ideas would be much appreciated.

Do not use any MAC filtering, make sure it is off. Unfortunately gateway devices are terrible devices especially for wireless. Let's try this, disable and turn off all wireless security on the router. Now connect to your unsecured SSID. Are you successful? If yes go back and add WPA2-AES encryption and try again.

Thank you for help thus far. After turning off all security to the router, the printer will now connect to the network. Now it says it is waiting for an IP address from router. After several attempts, plus disconnecting router and powering back up, it will not get an IP address from router. There is an option to enter one manually. Can or should I do that and if so, how? I tried turning security back on the router and reconnecting printer, which of course leads me back to the original problem of MAC filtering. Mac filtering is disabled.

Let's try this.

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.

  1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual). This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here (Windows solution 4, static IP).

 2.  Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off/Sleep' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the printers             IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer Assistant, Printer Home Page

(EWS). Also check your Printers Properties.

 3.  If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.

 4.  If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Preferred DNS server and 8.8.4.4 at the

      Alternate DNS server.

In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)

 5.  Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.

 6.  Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.

 7.  Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.

 8.  Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your system now and helps

with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).

 9.  If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same, they must be

different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.

 10.  SSID broadcast must be enabled.

 11.  Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.

 12.  Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.

Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?

  1. Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center/Advanced sharing settings.
  2. Under Home or Work (current profile) / Network Discovery.
  3. Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes.

Okay. Printer is now connected to the wireless network. The only way to get it to stay connected is to disable WPS, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK. UPnP is also disabled. There is no WPA-AES option in my router configuration. I followed the directions given to the best of my knowledge. I manually entered a static IP address for the printer, which is connected. All other devices are connected automatically through DHCP. I powered down both the router and the printer. After powering back up, the printer reconnects.  I'm now concerned that there is no security and/or firewall on my router/network. Can you please help me verify that. Other than that, KUDOS thumbs up for your expertise, knowledge, quick responses and overall help.

WPA2-AES = WAP2-PSK
