I have an HP 3510 that won't print the alignment page or scan documents. I recently installed new cartridges. The screen says "now printing alignment page..." and stays like that until I turn it off. One time I left it like that for over an hour hoping it would somehow start printing the alignment page but no luck. All it does it goes into idle.

I can't back out or cancel the alignment job, the screen stays stuck on "now printing alignment page..." . However, when I send a new print job to the printer either from my macbook or my ipad the document prints just fine. If i try to scan something from the HP utility software I get an error message that says "scanner is busy".

I have tried unplugging and restarting the printer, but it doesn't help. As soon as I turn it on it says "please load plain paper and press continue" and as soon as I do that it goes back to "printing alignment page" and stays like that.

Any help is appreciated...

Hi @pmartz89 , welcome to the forums!

I read about how you cannot complete a scan successfully, as you see a "scanner is busy" message, and also see "now printing alignment page" when trying to print.

I would like to know which operating system you are running on the computer you are having an issue scanning and printing from?

Which Windows Operating System am I running?
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?

Please let me know and I will look into this issue for you!Smiley Happy

I am having this same problem after changing out my black ink cartridge. I have been trying to scan a document into Adobe from the program itself, and then tried using the Scan button itself on the printer. The display started by saying to turn the printer off and back on, and that didn't do anything. Then it started going to "now printing alignment page" and then that page does not print and the display continues to show that message. I went through the HP Doctor and deleted and reinstalled my software and drivers, and have restarted my computer several times. Are there any other things I should try?

Thanks,

Adrienne

Welcome to the forums @Martinar317!

I understand your Deskjet 3510 is not scanning properly after changing the black ink cartridge, as the printer will show you a message to turn the printer off, and back on again.

My suggestions to get started with this issue would be to try a power reset on the printer (instructions below), make sure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors, and try scanning again to see if this helps.

  • Reset Instructions:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

I also would like you to try making a black and white and a color copy from the front of the printer to see if the issue is only with scanning, or with copies as well.

Please include the operating system you are running on your computer that you are trying to scan with: What's my Operating System?

I hope to hear from you again! 🙂

Thank you for your response. I use Windows 8. I did the power reset, but it continues to give the same message. I am, however, able to print in both black and color.

Hey there @Martinar317,

I am thinking that the issue could be with the scanner mechanism. Just to be sure, could you try making a copy and let me know what happens?

Thank you:)

When I first turn it on, it says to load white paper and press OK. There is already paper loaded, so I press OK, and then it says it is "now printing alignment page" and keeps displaying that, and if I turn it off and back on, it does the same thing, so I don't even have the chance to choose to make a copy. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Adrienne
