HP 4500 Officejet printer
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

When the power-on button is depressed to turn the unit on, my HP 4500 Officejet makes noise, as if the scanner bar is hung up and trying to access power to move across the printer screen.  After several "clunks", the unit does power up and the bar continues it's startup proceedure.  My concern is that perhaps a part is worn and needs replacement, but I am not sure which one it might be, nor where to start my diagnosis.  No error messages are ever received on either the printer or my computer.  I have run HP Print & Scan doctor, and printed a test page.  I am about to try to re-power the unit again, and see it the"Dr" fixes have helped. Any suggestions?

It is normal for the printer to go through cartridge servicing when the printer is turned on (and at other times as well).  If you have disconnected the printer from its power source, for example with an outlet switch or power strip, the printer will go through a more aggressive startup servicing.
