HP 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

A 3 year old HP 4500.  Obviously gets the print job as mesage goes to "printing"  nothing else then happens.

Copying (so independent of PC) also sits at "copying"

REquest a Printer Status page, so again, no PC involved also has same effect.

Scan to PC works, so communications to PC are fine

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Hi @Eserim,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing issues with your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer wherein it gets stuck on printing and also copying but does not print or copy.

This issue could occur if the firmware is not updated.

Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: Firmware Update

If the issue persists, then you may need to perform a hard reset on the unit by following the steps provided below:

1.Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
2.Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3.With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4.Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5.Wait at least 60 seconds.
6.Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

7.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8.Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
9.Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Thanks - I have p[owered off for a minute several times.  it was only after I left it totally off overnight that it seemed to go back to normal.

I will take a look at the firmware - thanks, i didn't know that was an option

Hi @Eserim,

You are welcome.

I understand that the printer started working after you turned it off overnight. I also see that you will try updating the firmware.

Please update the firmware and let us know the results.

I also appreciate your time and patience.

You have a good day ahead.
