when I lose power my HP Envy printer goes offline. When my Windows 10 it is very frustrating to try to get it back on line. I have taken the printer even out of the setting and then tried to add the printer. Added the IP address of the printer and still doesnt come back on line. Very frusting now being able to print. Ready to throw the printer out the window. Sorry i am 75 years old and technology frustrates me but I try......can someone help me. I have an HP all in one PC which I tought would be easier with the hard drive built in it .......
Can someone help me get the printer back on line with simple instructions for an old person..
Thanks......Bill

Hi @billnaboo1950,
Thank you for stopping by the HP forums. A Good day to you. 🙂 I read the post regarding requiring assistance with the printer going offline regularly when the power goes off. I will be delighted to assist you with this.
A Stupendous effort, brilliant description and very smart diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂 You are an important HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I also take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂
For starters, I would require more information to assist you better?
- Did you bypass power strips?
- Did you perform a hard reset on the printer?
- For now please follow all the prescribed steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-4500-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5304875/model/5368521/d...
Steps: Fix this problem automatically running print and scan doctor.
Step 1: Set the default printer and unpause printing
Step 2: Reset the printer and check the connection status
Step 3: Make sure the correct port is selected
Step 4: Create a manual connection (network connections only)
Step 5: Add a second printer device to Windows (network connections only)
Step 6: Reinstall the printer using HP Printer Assistant
Step 7: Other things to try
Please first run the print and scan doctor utility and check.
Then please try all the steps patiently one at a time especially steps 1, 4 and 7 where you need to disable IP V6 address. and check again. This should do the trick for you.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

Yes I did try all of that...I by passed the power cord....unplugged the router etc. Tried using the HP Power Assistant.
I will try it again tonight. Frustrating though as it still didnt work. Made sure I had the right IP address for the printer as I ran a check direct off of the printer to get the current IP address in case it changed.

Hello, @billnaboo1950
Thanks for the update!
I see that you were working with @DavidSMP. I would like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂
I see that you tried adding the printer using the IP address. I would recommend you to assign a static / manual IP address and DNS address for the printer. Also, disable the IPv6 of the printer. These can be done easily by following the instructions below:
• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
• Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
• Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
• Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Once this is done, restart your printer, router and the PC. and check. Reinstall the printer drivers if needed.
Let me know if that helps!
Have a great day 🙂
