HP 4630
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 4630 inkjet printer which is connected to a wireless network via an AT&T wifi connection.
I am able to use the Windows 10 Devices and Printers "Add a Printer Wizard" and find the printer. It shows up with the correct name. I can then add it.
What gets added, though, isn't a fully functional printer. When I right click the icon I get the Scan functionality. I am able to scan fine.
What I don't get is a printer. No printer icon shows up in Windows applications and there is nothing at all to help me print a document.
I tried downloading the full install package from the HP site but it says that a network installation was not successful each time I run it.
I have given this printer a static IP, I can reach it from a web browser, I can do a test print from the web interface, but I cannot seem to get a printer icon to show up in any Windows app. I can only get a scanner icon to work.
This thing used to work when I had it connected wirelessly on a different network. Now it doesn't. I have a Windows 7 computer upstairs that works fine with another HP 4630 over a wireless connection.
Can anyone suggest a step to resolve this? Thank you in advance. Mike Gallery

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you download and install the FULL feature printer software from HP for your operating system:

The following resource will help you :

http://123.hp.com/us/en/

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

Hope that helps.

Hello, Dean.
I had already tried that but I tried it again.
I went to the site but did not have to key in my operating system. I believe the web site automatically detected that.
All I had to do was key in my printer.

I installed the software.
It found my two 4630 printers and I chose the one I have assigned a static IP to.
It then continued with Installing Network Printer.  That image is included below.

After a while the software times out with what you see in the second image - the one at the top here.

I I continue with the error screen it diagnoses a problem and downloads software that pertains to resolving problems with a USB connection, which I do not have.
The printer is definitely available via a web browser and the static IP I have given it.

Can you suggest any further steps?

Thank you.

Hi,

Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

Let us know if that works!

I downloaded and ran the software you recommended. I told it to remove the HP 4630 Basic Device Software program.
I didn't see any other HP software that referenced the 4630 printer except for the Help files software which I also removed.

I restarted the full software installation and this time I had options I did not have before including the option to include OCR software and the help files, etc. I proceeded. After a while it timed out again (see below).

I also include a screen shot of the printer's web interface. I am able to print out a test page from this interface.

Thank you for your continued help.

HI,

Were you able to key in the Static IP address during the install process?

Else, one suggestion would be to disable Static IP address and use DHCP.  After successfully install then convert it to a static IP using EWS.

This resource will show you how:

Creating a Static IP address using EWS

If you are setting the printer as a DHCP, we'd suggest that you uninstall before reinstalling.

Hope that helps!

I tried converting it to DHCP and connecting to it. That didn't work.
During the FULL install process there is no place to key in the IP - the IP shows up as a choosable option.

Here is where I"m at.

I have a Windows 7 computer upstairs that is able to connect to both of the 4630's on my network with no problem. I just connected the Windows 7 computer (upstairs) to my downstairs printer here and it worked fine. Both printers are set for DHCP and both are getting assigned an IP.

My Windows 10 computer will recognize and add either of the 4630's via Devices and Printer, Add a Printer, but it will only recognize the printers as scanners, not printers. The icon that gets added only gives me the ability to scan.

Using the FULL software I can see both printers are choosable and if I choose either one the FULL installation will proceed but will eventually time out as I detail in a previous message.

Both printers are working. I can connect to both from Windows 7. I can connect to both via Windows 10 only as scan devices. I have tried turning off the firewall on my Windows 10 computer but that hasn't resolved the problem.

I'm not sure where to go here.

Thank you.

I finally got it working. I had to go to Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, and click "The printer I want isn't listed her" and then manually enter the hostname of the printer and wait . . . . for the software to connect to and talk to the printer.

Now that that is done I would like my software back that allows me to scan pages by running the HP software from my computer. Can you tell me how do get that? Is it part of the FULL software installation? I don't know if it is.

Thanks.

Mike

HI @Mike_Gallery

What you just did is adding the printer using the Add printer from the WIndows In-OS.

For the FULL feature software (where the Scan software resides), try this:

The following resource will help you :

http://123.hp.com/us/en/

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

If that fails (which seems to be the case previously), then perhaps you want to consider this standalone Scan Sofwtare:

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Let us know if that works.

Hope that helps!
