Hello,

Today I was trying to upgrade the firmware on my HP Laserjet 5200 for Mac OS X 10.8.3 with the RFU file from the designated HP website page and it stopped midway with an error, now the digital screen on the 5200 says...

Downld file now

SEND RFU UPGRADE

My computer gets no signal from the printer, so it won't let me do a firmware upgrade or anything now and I have no idea what to do...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really need to use this printer again and it seems like anyone else with this problem has a PC which doesn't help, being that I am on a Mac.

Thanks so much!!!

Josh

The product is not in stable stage.  Hence it may not accept the firmware upgrade from USB connectivity.

The best way is to use Parallel (LPT) or EIO port for this purpose.  I am hopeful that it will succeed & your product will be restored back to normal.

Speaking of LaserJet 5200 and SEND RFU UPGRADE

Only way to get it back to operation is to send firmware file over parallel port, IEEE1283 or LPT (what ever you call it).

How do I "send firmware file over parallel port, IEEE1283 or LPT"?

I have LaserJet 5200 connected by usb and iMac running mac osx 10.10

Mac no longer recognises the printer.

Thank you

The issue may not be the printer. Does the printer come to ready. If it does can you print config pages from the information menu? If you can you most likely do not have a firmware issue, but an issue with port or cable. Does the printer have a built in network interface. If it does try connecting the printer to your network or router if you have one.

Thank you for your response.

The printer does not go to Ready but to "Downld file now SEND RFU UPGRADE"

Unfortunately my Mac no longer recognises the printer.

The only way to upgrade is to borrow a pc desktop or notebook that has a parallel printer port and use a parallel cable to upgrade the firmware from that computer. Only other way is to purchase another formatter.
