HP Envy 5660
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hi all.

I am having a problem getting my new printer to print two-sided with Microsoft Word documents. I have a preset saved with the two-sided option checked and when I go to Layout I have long-edge binding selected. However, even with these settings chosen when I click print, the pages only come out one-sided. This problem is only with Word (and occasionally Google Chrome but I've figured out a way to get around that); I have no issue printing two-sided with Adobe Acrobat Reader or even Microsoft Powerpoint.

Thus far, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software several times, resetting printer settings and then trying to check the two-sided box, even uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Office. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can do to fix this?

Details: Printer is an Envy 5660. I'm using macOS 10.12 Sierra. I currently have Office 365, so my version of Word should be up to date.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the HP 5660 Won't Print Two-Sided on Microsoft Word,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you try disabling the UAC settings?

or try printing as an administrator as it usually works?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

The issue could have been caused by the security settings changed on the user profile.

You may either create a new user, login with the new user profile to install the printer or Turn off the UAC from the control panel and Restart the PC.

Here are the steps to configure UAC settings:

Open User Account Control Settings by clicking the Start button and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type uac, and then click Change User Account Control settings.

  • To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click OK.

if you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. You will need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

I think those are instructions for Windows and I'm running os Sierra. However I only have the one account on my computer and it's an administrator account.

@sarinka

Thank you for replying with the clarification 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

That said, here's the YouTube video to Reset the Printing System: Click here to watch

Resetting the printing system removes all printers and scanners from the printer's queue and clears all print jobs and print settings from the system, including printers and scanners that are not from HP. Resetting the printing system can be useful for troubleshooting printing problems, but you need to add all of your printers and scanners back to the list when you are finished. Resetting the printing system reset might resolve certain issues such as:

  • Print jobs that are stuck in the queue

  • An incomplete print driver installation

  • Communication issues between the printer and the Mac

CLICK HERE FOR MORE STEPS AND INSTRUCTIONS.

Once the above steps are complete, try the steps mentioned here to set up the duplexing from scratch to resolve all the issues with printing from MSOFFICE: Click here

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!
