Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
My unit worked fine for about 6 months and then quit printing black.
I called HP product support and it took about an hour to get them to send a replacement printer head.
I hope that will solve the problem.

@tanu365 wrote:My black ink stopped in the middle of a project. I have replaced all the cartridges with new ones. I tried a Q-tip on the tip as was suggested. I am not getting any results.
What printer model? What operating system? Where did you see a suggestion to use a Q-tip? Are there any error messages?

What printer model? What operating system? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth? What is the error message?

I'm on line with tech support (40 minutes) since I have a carepack contract -- tried all of this and it's still not working. I've learned more by searching online than the support tech. He keeps going off to talk with some one else to see what has to be done next. It takes a half an hour and they send you to level 2. Obviously this is a common problem. They should inform their techs of the problem. It would save a lot of time.

your suggestion of putting the printhead assembly in hot water was an great fix for my problem of the black ink not printing. the only thing i can add is that after inserting the assembly back it may take several cleaning of the printheads to get the ink completely refilled in the assembly before it starts printing. thanks for a great suggestion. i think this should be on the HP website and literature.

I soaked the print head overnight in distilled water at room temperature. a lot of ink came out but it still did not print black.
I had problems keeping the ink cartridges latched down. I think the print head is nylon and getting it to absorb moisture makes it softer and a different size.
I will try using hot water and let it dry out for a longer period.

It is impossible to help you with the information given. I would suggest you read this thread. If the suggestions here do not help then please provide some details: What printer model? Are there any error messages on the computer or printer? Any blinking lights? What print cartrdige are you using? Is it an original HP or a refill/reman? Have you tired running a cleaning cycle? Is black missing completely or just weak?
