I just opened up the 8610 inkjet printer (A) and printed 5 things max. It was working perfectly fine and then all of the sudden a message came onto the screen saying that one or more cartridge is not being read and is missing. It currently shows all colors on the screen, I'm not sure if that matters. I took them all out and tried cleaning the gold reading strip and put them back in. (That didn't work). We have another 8610 printer (B) in the office so I switched the ink, but printer (A) still read the same message while printer (B) works fine. This is a brand new printer that has been used for less than a week how can I have and fix this issue?

I see from the post that you are having issues with printing on your HP OfficeJet 8610 printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,
Kudos to you for trying out the steps before reaching out to us.
Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.
Please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP OfficeJet Printers - Ink Cartridge Errors
If you have followed the steps suggested in the previous post and still having the issue, I would personally suggest this could be an issue with the printhead as you have already tried the cartridges of another printer and still those cartridges don't get recognized. I would suggest you contact our HP phone support for available service related options. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.
