Officejet Pro 8610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I'm a sys admin of a small workgroup/homegroup network. Our Officejet Pro 8610 keeps randomly appearing offline on some of our computers. When this occurs, me or the user is unable to get it back online in Windows which results in my users being unable to print and forces me to delete the printer from their Windows installation and re-add it. After doing this, they're able to print again but this is obviously very annoying. Any suggestions to fix this?

Our setup and steps I took to try to solve the problem:

-Windows homegroup/workgroup network (so no domain/active directory).

-Windows 7, 8, 10 desktops.

-Printer connected wirelessly but close to the access point. There's also zero issues with other wireless devices in our network.

-No firewalling or mac filtering on our access point.

-Printer has static ip address assigned.

-Printer has latest firmware and desktops have latest drivers.

-IPv6 & firewall is disabled on the printer.

-Workgroup is set in printer and same as workgroup set on desktops.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP forum.

Here's some wireless troubleshooting steps ;

Solve wireless problems

  1. Make sure the printer is not connected to the network through an Ethernet cable

Wireless does not work if the printer is connected to the network through an Ethernet cable. Disconnect the

Ethernet cable from the printer.

  1. Make sure the wireless light is turned on

If the blue light on the printer control panel is not lit, wireless might be turned off. To turn on wireless, touch

or swipe down the tab at the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch

(Settings). Touch Wireless Settings, and then touch Wireless to turn it on.

If the blue wireless light is blinking, it means the printer is not connected to a network. Use the Wireless Setup

Wizard available from the printer control panel to make a wireless connection. Touch or swipe down the tab at

the top of a screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch (Wireless), touch (Settings). Touch Wireless

Settings, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

  1. Make sure the computer or the mobile device is connected to the wireless network

Make sure your computer or mobile device is connected to your wireless network. If you cannot connect the

computer to the network, contact the person who set up your network or the router manufacturer; there might

be a hardware issue with the router or computer.

  1. Restart components of the wireless network

Turn off the router and the printer, and then turn them back on in this order: router first and then printer.

Sometimes, turning off devices and then turning them back on helps resolve network communication issues.

If you still cannot connect, turn off the router, the printer, and the computer, and then turn them back on in this

order: router first, then printer, and then computer

Note: If you are using a computer running Windows, you can use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help

solve many problems you might have with the printer. To download this tool, visit www.hp.com/go/tools.

Hope that helps.

>Yeah I'll try that one next time it happens.

I appreciate your reply but can't you come up with anything else than this generic info? As a sys admin, I have serious problem with one of your products and I try to explain my problem and our setup in my startpost to the best I can. I would appreciate if you put some effort in your reply and/or a solution to my problem too.

There are lot of folks with the same issue (and not only those who can't setup their network properly or have lack of knowledge): https://www.google.nl/search?sclient=psy-ab&site=&source=hp&q=hp+8610+offline&oq=hp+8610+offline&gs_...

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

We'd suggest that you try creating a TCP/IP port.

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Thanks.

(I'm not able to access the account I posted my question with so hence this name)

Thank you for your response greenturtle. I'll try it with a user and I'll report back whether it works or not.
