Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

We have a 3rd party company who works on our printers.  They are complaining that when they go to service this printer, they are unable to get into the admin portion to reset counters, clear messages, etc.  I set a service access control code which I then gave to the technician, but he said once he signed in, there wasn't enough privileges to do what he needed to do.  There are only 2 users defaulted in the Sign In and Permission Policies and and everything is granted to both the Device Guest and the Device Administrator.  When standing at the printer, you hit Sign in and you get a drop down menu with three sign ins to choose from:

-User Access Code

-Administrator Access Code

-Service Access Code

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get this working, OR if I could just get rid off all of these users and lose the whole Sign in option all together.

Thank you.

Hello,

To access these reset and settings you need to enter the Service Mode.

This uses a Service Pin Number that cannot be reset it is hard coded.

You can set another service pin via the Embedded web server, but if this is not working I would try using the Service PIN found in the service Manual.

The Service Pin can be found in the M680 Troubleshooting Service Manual under the section "Solve Problems" "Event Log"

around page 105/106 The service provider should be able to access the Service Manual online through his channel partner page and get the Service Pin.

They will then be able to access this and then all the resets and settings they will need.

Please let us know if this helps you out.

Hello,

Thanks for posting your question.

To delete the Device Guest access, follow these steps using the EWS:

1. Open the EWS

a.  Print a Configuration Page to obtain the IP address of the printer.

(From the Home screen on the printer control panel, open the following menus:

Administration> Reports>Configuration/Status Pages>Configuration Page.

Select Print.)

b. Open a Web browser, and in the address line, type the IP address of the printer exactly as it displays on the printer’s control panel. Press the Enter key.

Note:  If passwords are set in the EWS, only the Information tab is available. You might have to type the administrator password.

2. On the top navigation tab, select the Security tab.

3. On the left navigation pane, select Access Control.

To check the  permissions  set, see the Sign in and Permission Policies section. Select the option in the Sign In Method column or appropriate selections for "Device User" and "Device Administrator".

 4. To delete a Device Guest: Scroll down to the Device User Accounts section, make sure to select the  Device Guest  and then click Delete. Click “Delete” in the Confirmation Page.

To change the Access Code in the EWS: Click the Security tab, and then on the left pane, select General Security . In the Set the Service Access Code section, type in the eight-character password (numerical values only), and then click “Apply”.
