Recently our lab printer has started printing thick, bold lines across the pages it prints.  This is present in all documents printed including Printer Test pages.  This is quite obtrusive and a waste of resources.

I am looking for troubleshooting steps to relieve the issue.  Currently the printer does not display any error codes, and all toner cartridge levels are above 75%.

I have not updated the computer or the drivers and this is a recent developement.

I have run the cleaning diagnostic from the menu, there is no indication of any dirt or debri.

The horizontal bars only occur during printing.

Please advise troubleshooting steps.

I can view the images now.

Based upon the defect seen on the prints, it appears to be a cartridge ground or HV contact issue.  Since it involves all 4-colors in the sequence they are installed in the pull out cartridge tray.  I recommend checking all othe ground contacts from the catridges to the HVPS (high voltage power supply).

One possible reason for that type of defect, is that when the drums are being charged, there is ground failure to all four CRGs at the same time which acts as a discharge (just as the laser exposure does) and there by toner is attracted to the area of discharge.  It appears that it is occurring one time.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

I would like to help you with your issue.

Please open the right door and pull out the ITB (Transfer Kit) by the blue handles and check for any toner on the belt.  If there is then you will need to order a new Transfer Kit because the toner cleaning blade has failed.

If you do not find any toner on the ITB, then please attach a scnned image of the print defect you are referring to.

Thanks,

SD-86

I appreciate your response.

the HP color laser jet cp2025 does NOT have an access door on the right side.  It has an access door for what appears to be a ram slot with nothing in it.  I removed the screws in the panel, and I removed the right side panel, however there are no blue hanldes you spoke of.  I would be happy to include photos if this helps.

here are some example pages to get a better idea of the issue I am facing, it is not dirt, the printer is printing extra lines!

Hello,

Your original post indicated the "cp4025" which does have the right access door to the ITB.  You must have edited your post title.

Since this is a "cp2025", and it has an ITB, the issue still could be related to the ITB.  Have you removed the ITB and checked for toner on the belt?

For some reason I cannot see the images you inserted.  If possible could you please save them as .pdf files and attach them.

The ITB is clear, no dirt, no debri, no ink.

Mine did that on pictures right out of the box. Sure hope there is a solution soon! I like the printer otherwise.

What is your recommendation for checking the grouding points?

I can see the points in the printer.  I am working to disassemble it to get a better look.  I see that all of the points look healthy, and I can see where they make contact with the pad on the cartridge.

I will clean the points and re-assemble unless otherwise notified.

I have inspected the printer, I have re-assembled the printer.

Now the printer claims "10.10000 Supply Memory Error".  I move the cartridge (black because 10.1000 relates to the black cartridge) to another printer.  It likes the black cartridge.  I take the original cartridge from the working printer to the non working printer.

Install the cartridge.  Power off unit.  wait 3-5 minutes just to be sure.  Power unit on, and I get the same error.

I pulled a new cartridge out of the box and install it into the printer and power cycle it the same as before.  I get the same error.
