HP Color LaserJet CP5525

Hello HP! We've been having an issue with a HP CLJ CP5525 for about a month now and I'm growing rather desperate for answers. I'm hoping someone here may have an idea what's going on. Below is a post I made about a MONTH ago to another printer forum I frequent and it gives you an idea of where this headache started.

Here is everything I've attempted since this post:

  • Replaced the ITB.
  • Replaced the toner collection unit.
  • Replaced ALL toner cartridges (all together and one at a time).
  • Updated the firmware.
  • Inspected the toner collection augur, cleaned it out, and made sure it was properly functional.
  • Performed a general cleaning of the printer.
  • Replaced the transfer roller in the right door.
  • Ran a cleaning page.
  • Ran a full calibration (before and after pretty much everything).

The printer occasionally groans still, but it always exhibits the print quality issues that you see in the below pictures.

This machine is currently taking up a spot in my office, so I can run tests as they are suggested to me.

The old post:

I'm currently having a number of print quality issues with a HP Color Laserjet CP5525 that we have where I work.

Here is an album showing the problems we are having.

Here is a SECOND album showing more pictures.

Videos showing the groaning noise.

It's on an older version of firmware (datecode: 20110630, version: 2121197_170342), but the firmware readme for this model of printer does not list fixing any issues anywhere relevant to this problem.

There is a small crease / line on the ITB that's on the same side most of the issues seem to be occurring.

Issues seem to persist on the engine test page.

Below is the error log:

You are posting to much information.  Simple is better.  Do the following.  Put the printer is diagnostics mode, disable cartridge check.  Run the print qualify pages as you have done, playing close attention to the black which seems to be your major issue.  Now open the toner door and SWAP the cyan and black toners.  Do the same pq troubleshooting.  Look at the pages that have black.  Is it the same as before the swap or do you now have cyan issues.  If the same the issue is the toner cartridges and nothing, I repeat nothing else.  If the cyan now has issues the problem is with the slot and by the looks of your images I would think highvoltage or mech that drives the toner drums.

Whelp, did the testing as you had recommended and I've had little luck.

I ran the print quality pages to get a baseline and then swapped the black and cyan cartridges, disabling the cartridge check so it would run. The problem DID change to the cyan so it definitely seems to be related to the slot that the cartridge was installed in, not the particular cartridge.

We ended up pulling the trigger on the high voltage power supply and this unfortunately did not resolve the issue. Any further ideas?

This one is very difficult since it could be a contact or other issue.  One thing that comes to mind is the transfer belt.  Inside the belt is a primary transfer roller for each color which is responsible for transferring the image from the drum of the toner to the belt to later be transferred using the secondary transfer roller to the paper and then fused.  If you have another transfer belt around or can borrow one from another printer that is the next item I would try.

I'm currently not in a place where I can watch the videos but I remember recently reading about another machine at the same model with print quality problems and affecting the black toner.
