HP DesignJet 500
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I have some problem with my HP DesignJet and it won't power on properly. When I switch the power button on, the light of the power button starts blinking. On the display image, that you can see in the attachment, there is a cross mark blinking. It is not possible to switch the power button off - it just goes on blinking. I have confirmed that the power cable is connected properly.

This has happened before as well and then, I resorted to removing the power cable. After the first couple of times that i removed the power cable and then put it back on, there was not any change until the fourth or fifth time when the plotter powered on properly.

Now, however, removing the power cable does not help anymore, the power button starts blinking and the plotter won't power on.

I haven't made any changes to my hardware or software in the period when this problem occurred.

I have a usb connection to the plotter.

I am in a network with two other computers that have also a usb connection to the plotter.

I have not detected recently any peculiar behaviour from the plotter.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello,

if you don't have any documentation, here is some info on the power light flashing.

LED is Flashing continuously - A problem has been detected with the

previous firmware upgrade. Try resending the firmware upgrade file.

LED Flashes twice every few seconds - The Printer cannot detect

the Interconnect Cable. Try the following:

1 Check that the Interconnect Cable is connected correctly to the

Electronics Module and to the Interconnect PCA.

2 If the Interconnect cable is connected correctly and the LED continues

to flash twice then replace the Interconnect Cable

LED Flashes 3 times every few seconds - The Printer cannot

detect the Front Panel. Try the following:

1 Check that the Front Panel is connected correctly to the Interconnect

PCA.

2 Check that the Interconnect Cable is properly connected at the both

ends of the Printer.

3 If the Front Panel is connected correctly and the LED continues to

flash 3 times then replace the Front Panel

4 Replace the Interconnect Cable.

5 Replace the Electronics Module.

LED Flashes 4 times every few seconds - This indicates that the

Main PCA has failed. Replace the Electronics Module.

LED Flashes 5 times every few seconds - This indicates that the

Main PCA has failed. Replace the Electronics Module.

Hi Brent,

Thanks a lot! We tried out replacing the Electronics Module with a new one, just as most of the directions you posted suggest, and the problem got fixed.
I'll let you know how all this ends once we get and install permanently the new Electronics Module.

Best wishes!

Hi,

Thats 100% confirm, its Main PCA  issue. You may just remove the Electronic Module from printer and check through another same model printer for that spare's and select Main PCA replace only.

If you found get OK, that ready Main PCA now check with your faulty printer. That time you should select ISS replace only.

I hope that soluation will help to you.
