My son took the printer out of the box, and started it up.  I don't think anyone actually read the instructions and now we can't wirelessly connect because I have no idea what the password is to connect through wifi!  Is there any way to reset the password or something?

The password would be the password for your router.  If it has not been changed this would be found on a label on the wireless router.

Thanks, but I never got to even try it! I ended up holding down the wifi button and the cancel button at the same time for several seconds until it reset, now no password is needed

Where are you being asked for a password?  If it is during setup, and the setup program is prompting you for the wireless password it is asking for the password for your router.  There is generally a WPS PIN printed on the label of your router.

I set up the printer and never could figure it out. I downloaded the hp app. It tells you to connect to the printer in your settings with wifi and when you do that it is locked (password protected) and I can't connect without a password. It's not my wifi password and nothing on my router. SO WHAT IS IT?

Then I read online to hold the wifi button and the cancel button on the printer togetherto get the password. When I did that the thing that printed what a bunch of squares in blue and black. No password

The blue and black squares page is likely an alignment page, printed if the printer was reset.  If the password was associated with the printer (rather than the router) it may have been reset/cleared with the reset, as reported by the user above.  Did you try to access the printer after the reset?

I was pressing all the buttons and ended up holding the wireless direct button it that looks like a phone connected to the printer down long enough that a paper with directions and a password printed out. it says "make sure the wireless direct printing light is on " which is the one that looks like the phone is connected to the printer then "turn on wifi on phone or computer" then "select hp print 6b deskject 2540 from the list of networks" then the hp wireless password is 00454569, i dont know if that works on every printer but i cant imagin they made it different for every one. I was able to print from my phone using this. hope it helps
