HP DeskJet 3633 All-in-One Pri
Other

Hi there,

I've had the HP Deskjet 3633 since 2016. I really like it however there's always been an issue with it and it's finally starting to bother me. Whenever I would print something from my iphone or macbook through wi-fi, it wouldn't work on the first try. I almost always have to restart the printer in order for the printer to pick up the print request from the iphone or macbook. I find that rather inconvenient. Do you know how I can fix this issue? I'd rather be able to leave it on/idle all the time, and print it without restarting the printer each time.

Greetings @irenegnaw54

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are facing an issue with your printer going offline and not responding. Happy to help.

Have you tried any other troubleshooting steps other than restarting the printer?

Recommend you to assign a static IP address to your printer by opening following the procedure mentioned below.

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer (which can found by pressing the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel)
  • Enter the IP address on the web browser (Ex: chrome, IE) to enter the printer EWS page.
  • Go to the “Network” tab, click on “Wireless (802.11) then click on “Network address (IPV4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

For a Youtube video of the procedure, click here. (The video is for Windows 7, but the procedure is the same for MAC as well.)

Let me know if this helped.

Thank you so much for your prompt response. I'm definitely giving this a shot when I get home today. I'm glad to try something other than restarting the printer, I think I just didn't know what to try.

I'll let you know if it worked!

Best,

Irene

Hey there!

I followed your step by step instructions, but unfortunately my printer will still go offline after about 1 minute or so. I even switched it so it only accepts IPV4.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. Are you able to make a copy on the printer? Are you enrolled in the Instant Ink program?

Copy function of a printer is independent of the software on the computer.

If you are unable to make a copy, please do hard reset (disconnect the power cable of the printer, wait for a minute and connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and turn the printer ON.)

If the printer still does not make a copy after a hard reset. Please contact our phone support for the service or upgrade options for the printer.

If you are able to make a copy without any issues. Recommend you to update the firmware on the printer and check. Click here for assistance.

If the issue persists after updating the firmware as well. Please uninstall the printer using the method mentioned below and install it back.

HP Printers - Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac) (Have the printer Off during uninstallation)

HP Printers - Resetting the Printing System (Mac)

HP Printers - Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update

Keep me posted
