Deskjet 2540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As the subject goes, the page print gets trimmed at the bottom and one side of the print goes towards the end of the page i.e. the print is not properly aligned. I tried repairing the alignment usint HP Print and Scan doctor, but of no use.

I tried looking at the already posted threads but haven't found any for Windows 10 64 bit. If I missed out on any existing thread, please provide the link so that I can go through it.

Early response is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello, @ATG726 – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for reaching out! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I understand that you are having issues while printing on your Deskjet 2540 printer. To assist you with this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not.

Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy comes out good, then try the steps below:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL48442/al-117577-4/DJ2540_188.exe to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

If the copy also comes out bad, check the paper feed. Make sure the paper is fed correctly & clean the paper pick rollers using a lint free cloth.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂

Hi,

I appreciate your response and thank you for listing out the steps. Unfortunately, the process did not help me in rectification as the issue still persists.

Please let me know if there is anything else that need to be done.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. Does the issue persist when you make a copy on the printer?

Recommend you to uninstall the printer again using the method mentioned below and try printing using Windows built-in driver. Click here.

Uninstall the printer from programs and features from the control panel.

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Update the firmware on the printer using the control panel on the printer. (Will require the printer to be connected to your wireless network.)

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Use the Windows built-in driver and check.

Keep me posted.
