Hello everybody,

yesterday I installed my new printer Deskjet 2540 wirelessly and tested it. All (scan and copy) worked well up to the point where I wanted to print a Pdf file. It did not so I started picking other documents.
Some pdf files print without a problem, other won't. Some docx files print, other won't. In Excel or Oulook I haven't been able to print anything. In Outlook I was able to print to pdf and then actually print that pdf.

After some close looking, it seems the printing jobs are sent to the spooling area, but deleted within 1 second without actually printing.

I have already tried to reinstall the latest drivers (version 12/12/2O13) and using the HP print and scan troubleshouting. This last one gave me the green light and printed the test page without a problem.

Hopefully anyone recognises this problem? Any solutions would be very welcome.

Kind regards

Tom

Hi there Tom, Welcome to the ForumsSmiley Happy

I noticed your issue printing some PDF files and doc files and also saw you mention that you could not print anything at all from Excel or Outlook. There could be a few things happening with this type of issue. I am glad to see you have ran the print and scan doctor as well.

I have some suggestions, some I will need to know your operating system to better research the guides to link you to, so please respond with your OS.

Which Windows operating system am I running?

You can check to see if the firmware needs updating: Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates

Hope to hear back from you!

Hello Rainbow7000 and thank you for the welcome!

The operation system is a Windows 7, 64-bit.

For the Deskjet 2540 there's only a driver update, no firmware update...

Thank you for any suggestions!

Kind regards

Hi there Tom,

Thanks for your reply with your information, that helps out quite a bit!

First, download (can save right on your Desktop and use whenever you run into a printing or scanning problem) and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor which will search and fix common printing problems. This alone may resolve your issue.

If the issue persists, continue on to these steps.

Now, I would suggest installing Windows Updates, there will be "optional" ones there as well to install. If there are many updates to be done, this could take up some time.

Install Windows Updates

If that doesn't seem to do the trick, I recommend a Level 3 uninstall (uninstall_l3) and reinstall of the printer software and driver. Here are the tools and steps to use.

1. Uninstall - HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility

2. Restart your PC

3. Reinstall - HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows

Hopefully the issue will dissipate after the level 3 uninstall and reinstall. If not, here is a link to Adobe to troubleshoot PDF printing problems.

Troubleshoot PDF printing | Acrobat, Reader

If you run into any other issues, please let me know. I will be out of the office for the weekend but will check up on this thread when I return!

Good luck!:)

Hello Rainbow7000

I have done some testing, here are the results.

HP print and scan doctor came with a green sign, no problems found. This is in line with being able to print the test page (and from IExplorer and PDF).

I installed the latest updates but still no printing.

Then I did a complete uninstall. Once with the removal utility; once booting in safe mode, uninstalling and cleaning with CCCleaner. Still no printing.

A closup of the no printing : in Word, it looks like there will be some printing, but the print job is removed after 1 second from the spooling list. In Excel I get a popup, same as this one http://67.222.8.129/forums/showthread.php?t=6766.

So I thought it could be MS Office and installed the free OpenOffice : same result, no printing.

I have installed the printer on 4 computers now : two different Win7 64 bit standalone computers with no printing. One Win7 64 bit laptop and one Win7 32 bit laptop with printing.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Kind regards

Hi there,

I have the exact sameproblem. Same hardware and Win7 64bit. I have played for 3 days now. I can't print a testpage and Word documents. Printing a picture works fine. I see the job and it's printing. Testpage I see only for 1 second.

Tried everything to fix it work but no results to make it permanent work. One time I was able to make the printer work. I switched from Win RAW printing to HP RAW printing in the Advanced printer settings, Print Processor but the next day it was not working 😞

I have also installed the printer in the same network on a Windows Vista PC and that works fine.

Also have this working printer shared on the network but also then I was unable to print via the shared printer?

It must be the Win7 PC or driver.

The problem seems to be a faulty driver. But it's a shame HP is not responding to our issues. I've seen multiple threads descibing the exact same problem without a solid reaction from HP.

As a workaround i've installed the deskjet 6980 divers, now i can print from every source. My guess (and hope) is that they are working on a new driver for the 2540.
