OK, that is strange.  I don't have a 3000 to play with so I'll try my best, here.

What router are you using? Does it support WPS?

Thanks!  It's a Sagem router, but unfortunately that is the other problem,  no WPS button.

OK, the software should have a network connection option, but if you say it is not there I believe you.

OK, this is a bit techy but should work:

1. On the printer, click the wireless button and scroll to select Restore Network Defaults

2. On your Mac, connect to the wireless network that starts with "HP".

3. From the same wireless menu on the front of the printer, print a Wireless Network Test.

4. Type the printer's IP address into a web browser (like Safari). Use the address bar, not the Google bar.

5. Navigate the printer's settings - Network Tab, then run the Wireless Setup Wizard and attach the printer to your wireless network.

5. Connect you Mac back to your wireless network.

6. Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Fax
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Hi, I'm getting the same sort of problem but cannot resolve it. I have tried following PrintDoc's instructions but although my computer (a PC running Vista SP2)  says it is connected to the printer the print-out from the printer shows "Not applicable" against IP address.

Before trying this the printer was working fine until I changes my router and therefore wireless network. I have since tried two wireless networks and in both cases the HP set-up software fails halfway through. The Cisco X3000 I am now trying to connect it to can see the printer on 192.168.1.213 but the HP software cannot see it. Printing on USB is still possible.

I have tried all the obivous things; new download of the set-up software, turning off McAfee, another PC (Windows 7, no firewall), Update IP but without any change - it's as if the set-up software gives up at a certain point and something is stopping it. It allows you to ignore the lack of connection or cancel but in both cases it will not print wirelessly.

Is there a way of restoring the printer to factory settings or firmware updating it? Otherwise it is destined for the recycling centre!

Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly.

If I have the USB connected it and run the utlility it thinks everything is ok. It does not give any option for checking the wireless link.

If I unplug the USB and run the utlility the printer still shows as USB / Installed foloowing the search. When I click Next it takes me to the regular set-up utility. If I choose to "convert a USB printer to wireless" it prompts me to connect the USB and then whether I take the computer's wireless settings or enter them manually, on either one of two wireless networks the green bar gets around 3/4 of the way and stops. Eventually the window changes to say "Your printer failed to join the wireless network". That is the same thing that has been happening all along.

Thanks again for your help.

On the front of the printer click the Wireless button to verify the printer is connected to your wireless network.

It has shown the IP address there whenever it has been connected. So the router and the printer agree on the IP address, but the set-up software does not complete so it won't work.

Thanks again.

It sounds like you have a PC to router/printer communication issue.  The printer appears to be connected OK.  Can you type the printer IP address into a web browser address bar and "see" the printer?

I think at this point I would recommend completely uinstalling all HP software (using the uninstall programs in the HP folder).

Then, restart your PC.

Finally, download and install the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
