Have owned 2 HP Deskjet 6980's.  I'm getting extra black ink printed on all documents.  I used to be able to do a "clean printer heads" procedure.  Don't know how to do that with newer model of 6980, using Windows 7.

Please advise.  Thanks.

Hi GlenBill58,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! Smiley Happy I understand you are getting extra black ink on your prints to your HP Deskjet 6980, and would like to know how to clean the printheads to see if this resolves the issue. I noticed there were no full feature software and drivers for the Windows 7 OS, you would of installed using the In OS driver.

Remeber the basic Windows 7 driver is installed. Some functions might not be available, but you can use workaround procedures instead. To get a better understanding take a look here: Installing the Printer Software in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection

Seeing as there is no workaround for the printhead or alignment procedure, you could try taking the cartridges out cleaning them and inside the printer where the cartridges sit to see if this helps improve the quality.

If still no success, I suggest calling our technical support at 800-474-6836 to see what upgradeable options may be available to you. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl

I hope this helps!

Thanks,
