Hi, the self-test page on my F2180 shows that the last error code was C0840001. I know that "C" means hardware, "084" is the component id, "00" is the product type and "01" is the actual error code. However, I don't know what component it refers to or what the error code means. Does anybody know? F2180 is part of the HP F2100 All-In-One series, similar to the F4100 series. Thanks.

That's about right, cib3k, this type of error is a general error, and most times will not effect the overall performance of your machine. Generally, though, this kind of error happens when there is an issue related to the power of the machine, and is commonly removed by clearing the power out of the machine.

Also making sure that the machine constantly receives the correct amount of power will prevent these errors 90% of the time.

I hope this information helps!

cib3k, I would recommend first unplugging the device from both the rear of the machine and the wall outlet it is plugged into for thirty seconds. Plug the machine back in and see if the error message returns.

How is this printer plugged in? Is it plugged into a wall outlet or into a surge protector or a battery backup? HP recommends that their printers be plugged into a wall outlet at all times to ensure they have the full amount of power necessary to run the hardware and sensors in the machine.

Let me know what happens!

Considering that it's the last error on the self test page, I don't think it will go anywhere until another error happens. The printer is working fine otherwise, so there's no reason for plugging/unplugging. I just wanted to know what this error meant and if the printer has some hidden fault.

Anyway, I found an HP document which explains what the error code actually means. C***00xx are generic errors and 084 means Unknown command. So at some point, due to buggy drivers, buggy firmware, bad connection, faulty cable or something like that, the printer received a command it didn't know how to process. So no reason to worry. I hope this helps anyone else who has this problem.
