I've had this problem for a few months. Every once in a while, it won't print a document, shows ink levels are low but the picture of the ink levels shows more than half full on both the black and the color.
I have to turn off the printer, wait a few minutes, turn it back on -- then it will print. Help?

The printer was not properly reading the cartridge ID.

The blinking light on the front panel is not showing low ink in this case but rather a problem with the cartridge. The troubleshooting steps in this document may help resolve the issue.

Thank you for your reply. I tried doing the steps but when I get to Figure 15 -- hold, then release Paper Type and Resize to Fit buttons -- nothing happens. I don't get a Printer Status Report.

Are one or both of the cartridge lights blinking?
I do not have a F4440 to test, but I would try agin as sometimes the button sequences are fussy. You need to press both buttons at the same time and hold both, then release both after a few seconds.
If the page does not print I would skip to Solution three and clean the cartridge and printer contacts for whichever cartridge has the blinking lights. If this does not resolve the issue move to the later solutions.

OK, if just the color cartridge light is blinking I would suggest removing the cartridge and give the contacts in the printer and on the cartridge a cleaning with a lint-free scrub, a damp coffee filter or a folded dollar bill should work well.

Ok, did that, then ran another test page -- it says the same as the last one. But, now the color ink levels show (nearly full) where before it was x'ed out (showed a warning). So, hopefully, that took care of the problem. Thank you so much! 😄
