When I push scan, the yellow light blinks, then stops, no scan. I used to access Start Scan under Devices & Printers, but now that option has also ....just disappeared. HELP!!!

F4480 used to scann manually with the button.  Now, when pushed, the On/Off Green button blinks and the yellow "ATTENTION' button blinks for about 30 secs.  Then, NOTHING HAPPENS!  I have used the CD in the past, but it's so outdated that my MAC wont regognize the printer.  Used the download from HP and it was fine.  Then I loaded Leopard and I CAN"T BELIEVE THERE ISN"T A FIRWARE UPDATE FOR THIS!!!!

Well, whadya know, a year later still no reply from HP.  Do they even monitor this forum?  There are over 600 views of this, meaning over 600 people, like us, have this problem, and, given that only a small percentage of users make it to forums, surely thousands of people have this problem!  And HP can't even give us a response?

See above.  The HP Deskjet F4480 won't scan.  I push the Scan button, the yellow light flashes and everything shuts down.

Sounds like everyone on this thread is having issues with scanning, now what I am going to first recommend is that we perform a refresh of the software by uninstalling it and reinstalling it. If that does not help, any further information from each of you would be appreciated (connection method, OS, error message, etc).

First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it (this is important). Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.

In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.

Install that and let me know the result!

I hope you are hving a wonderful week, and I hope that the weather where you are located is as beautiful there as it is here!

This problem is exactly what mine is doing, flashing yellow light, blinking green light, used to work like a champ!!

The only work around I found that worked was to open HP Photosmart Studio and the 2nd icon is scan.... it worked perfectly, just remember it seems to just scan it so you still need to save it to an application, you have the choice of saving it to jpg, tiff or pdf and thats by picking the left pointing arrow to "return" the scan to the "calling" application.... worked, seems my HP will be tossed for the next inexpensive 3-in-1 I find at Best Buy... lol

This is the first time I tried to scan and when the button is pushed the green light flashes, the error light blinks for about 20 to 30 seconds ...and nothing.  What gives?

This is the HP site for HP Print and Scan Doctor (worked wonders for me):  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/ccdoc/p...
