HP ENVY 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I  bought  a  printer  cartridge  and  seller  insists  its  authentic  but  I  was  suspicious  of  authenticity  because  the  proter  levels  for  the  black  in  alway  read  empty.  The  seller  assured  me  that  the cartriudge  is  full  but  he  didn't  bther  tell  me  that  HP's  update  has  what's called "counterfeir  detector".

Is  this  possibly  the reason  my  printer  has  been sabatoged  by  HP  to  not print  right?  Wow  what a  gyp  if  thi  is  the  case.  Tell  me  this  ain't  so,  otherwise  I  will  contact  the  seller  and tell  him he's    CROOK!!

It would appear you do not have a genuine HP cartridge.  It is possible it was originally an HP cartridge that was used to depletion, then refilled.  If the issue was caused by HP software there would be a warning about 'Used or Counterfeit ink cartridge Detected' or 'Counterfeit ink cartridge Advisory' Error.  It is possible there is an electrical connection issue, reseating the cartridge and/or cleaning the electrical contacts of the printer and cartridge as shown in the document here may help resolve the issue.

Regardless of whether the cartridge is a counterfeit or not I finally got my printer to print on every line by setting printing preferences to"best." Maybe in the future I have to be more careful about what kind of cartridges I buy Lesson learned and thank you for the feedback

Printing in Best mode is a workaround, it will take twice as long to print.  Did you try cleaning the cartridge and printer electrical contacts?  The issue you describe would be caused by an electrical issue between the cartridge and printer (which can perhaps be corrected by cleaning the electrical contacts) or by a failed cartridge (requiring replacement).

The printer is not giving a message about a counterfeit cartridge, and if it did it would not just print half the lines out of spite.
