HP ENVY 5663 e-All-in-One Prin
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP ENVY 5663 e-All-in-One Printer and it will print normal with regular paper however when I want to print a 4x6 photo from the photo tray it stops processing the print and says that I need to load photo paper in the tray. The tray has 4x6 in it but it still will not print. I tried resetting it but it did nothing. On the printer screen it shows that the main tray has paper but the photo tray is empty. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, @Gatheringstorm1 – Hope you are well!

Thank you for joining the HP Forums! I read your post about the photo printing issue on your Envy printer. I am happy to look into this issue for you 🙂

Going through your post, it looks like an issue with the printer print settings on your PC causing the issue. While feeding the photo paper to the photo, you need to keep “Glossy” or print side facing down. Also, it is important to change the print settings before you print a photo. Check the settings mentioned below:

  1. Go to control panel - Devices and printers
  2. Right-click on your Envy and choose the "Printing preferences" option.
  3. Now, go to paper quality / layout tab and make sure the paper type is selected as "Photo paper".
  4. Also, select the correct paper size and save the settings.

Now, follow the steps mentioned to print the photo:

  • Open the picture using “Windows Photo Viewer” (You can right-click on the image and go to “Open with” to select the windows photo viewer app)
  • Change the paper size appropriately.
  • Also, change the paper type to “photo paper” before printing.

Please let me know whether that works for you or you need further assistance. Thank you!

Cheers 🙂

Still does not work. I have photo paper in the tray and regular paper in the main tray but it keeps saying to load paper In the photo tray. Even my printer shows that there is no photo paper in the printer. But main tray is fine. I'm pulling my hair out over this!

Hello, @Gatheringstorm1

To further isolate this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not using the photo paper.

Place a picture face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Now, go to the copy settings and change the paper type and paper size and try making a copy. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

Thanks, I'll watch for the reply!

Have a good day 🙂
