Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Have HP Easy Scan on my iMac (macOS Sierra 10.12.3) that I use with my Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw.

HP Easy Scan scans the documents fine, but when I point it to save the file as a PDF; it "looks" like it is doing something but is Not saving the file AT ALL. Then in a multi-tpage document, it only saves 1st page as PDF and leaves the reamining off. Problems alternate between these two.

Already removed the printer from iMac and re-added it. Also uninstalled HP Easy Scan and reinstalled it. Nothing I tried seems to be working. So very frustrating.

Anyone else run into this? Is there a solution to this???

Hello, @AvGeek – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome you to HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.

I see that you are having issues while saving pdf files using the HP Easy Scan. Let’s try the steps below to fix this issue:

  • Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  • Also, uninstall the HP easy scan.
  • Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
  • Restart your computer and printer.
  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip to download and install the printer drivers.
  • In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
  1. Click the “Add button” (+).
  2. Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  3. Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Now, try scanning using the HP Scan option and check whether you can save the pdf files.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

Hi, @Dvortex!

Thanks for the detailed steps, much appreciated!

I tried all of the steps and it still does not work 😕

However I DO have one additional data point for you to hopefully resolve this. I run into this problem when I scan Legal papersize and then edit the page in HP Easy Scan, Cop, and select "Legal" before attempting to save. It "looks" like it is saving but when I go to the folder I am attempting to save, the file name I chose is not there. Whereas with Letter size or w/o editing the scan, it saves okay.. Seems to be failing when I edit the page to resize to Legal.

Hello @AvGeek

Thanks for the reply! Appreciate all your efforts 🙂

Going through your post, it looks like an issue with the software while editing the legal size paper. It could be an issue with the HP easy scan software.

Since we have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, let's try a different app to scan.

Try scanning using the Apple image capture and check. You can get the details http://hp.care/2ffHTph

Let me know if it scans the legal size fine here.

Have a great day!

Works, however I want to be able to use the HP Easy Scan SW 😞 Apple's doesn't come with the features HP does. 😞

Hello, @AvGeek

Thanks for the update! Glad to know that you were able to use the Image capture 🙂

It looks like some compatibility issues with your MAC & the Easy scan software. There are regular updates for the HP Easy Scan. I am positive that the issue will be fixed in one of those updates.

Hence, I would suggest updating the MAC OS by running the Apple Software update, restart the MAC, download and reinstall the HP Easy Scan from the Apple store. The last time you tried this was about a month back, hence, try doing those steps now and check.

Thanks, I'll watch for your reply!

Good luck 🙂

Hi @Dvortex,

I am afraid it did not work. I did all the steps and just today I received my mail that was printed in Legal paper (that was why I did not get a chance to try this before b/c I got rid of prior mail). It did not work 😞

@AvGeek

It looks like you were interacting with @Dvortex, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here,

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service,

If none of the previously recommended steps worked for your printer, you might want to consider installing the drivers from another printer: the Deskjet 990c: Click here to find the drivers.

Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.
