HP Envy 5540
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

I am trying to add my printer to my computer, so I'm going through the HP Easy Start. I have downloaded the required and recommended software, but when I get to the page that says Enable Print and Scan which tells me to add device, a drop down box appears that says that it cannot configure the device software. It then tells me to redownload the software, which I do, but it continues to say the same thing.

How do I fix it?

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I understand that you have an  HP ENVY 5540 All-in-One Printer I read that the HP Easy Start software does not work. When you reach to Enable Print and Scan which tells you to add a device, a drop down box appears that says that it cannot configure the device software. You have reinstalled the HP Easy Start and the issue persists. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job. I'll do my best to help you.

Seems like it is a compatibility issue. However, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

I hope this information helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

I have the same problem and am in a terrible time crunch with a huge project to print. This morning, I was met with a notice that it was time to upgrade the software for my 8600 Pro Premium. I am now at four hours trying to install the new software.

After reading several discussions, I have completed resetting the printing system as well as using First Aid on my iMac.

The error message I get is after downloading the software and clicking the Install button. I'm asked to put in my admin name and password, and right after that, I get a notice that EasyStart connot configure the software. I've downloaded the software four times today and deleted each after the "cannot configure" notice.

I'm using El Cap 10.11.06.

Please help!!

Thank you,

Theresa Griffin
