I have a new Windows 8.1 PC and an old HP LaserJet 3055. Documents print but the scanner doesn't work. HP won’t build 3055 scanner drivers for Windows 8.X.
Four times HP Tech Support tried hard to solve this matter for me. The solution found in the 02-24-2015 posting of this thread worked for the poster but not me.
On the fifth try with HP Tech Support, I pointed out the above thread to “Stuart” who quickly succeeded. Here’s my (hopefully correct) summary of his approach.
As explained in the first two links of the 10-02-2014 posting found in:
social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b6c03300-fbed-4604-85fe-edbb811d769e/failed
- Do not use HP’s PCL or PS drivers (uninstall if necessary, as the link explains)
- Install the HP LaserJet USB (DOT4) communication driver for Windows 8.0/8.1 (64-bit)
- Do the above steps in the order given
The PC now recognizes the 3055 as a printer but not as a scanner, i.e., in Device Manager the 3055 shows under Printers but not Imaging Devices.
In Device Manager, choose Action > Add Legacy Hardware. Choose Imaging Devices to get a list of manufacturers.
The 3055 lists its imaging driver as prnhpcl3.inf or laserjet scanner 3055. On my PC the location is:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnhpcl3.inf_amd64_fe1e73aef988a558\prnhpcl3.inf

I was sent to this page searching for help with windows fax and scan . My hp 3055 scanned and faxed great with Windows 8, does not work at all with Windows 10. I have downloaded drivers from Windows Update, and the HP Support site--nothing is working. I removed he HP device, cleared all existing HP software, still NOTHING WORKS.
Anyone have the actual fix for this?
