HP Laserjet 1020
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello everyone,

I've recently got a HP LaserJet 1020 printer that was unused for some time and I wanted to put it to work. However, each page that I print, regardless of the content of the page, it looks like the one in the attached image. I've cleand the pickup roller, cleaned the printer with the software option, used various settings available and the result is always the same. I do not believe the cartrige is an original one.

Is it the printer's fault or the cartridge's fault? Thank you for your help.

Hi @randomherrro ,

I see that you are getting pretty much a full black page. I would like to help you out today.

It could possibly be the toner, fuser or a hardware issue with the printer.

You have already done all the cleanings that I would have suggested.

Inspect the toner cartridge for damage:

1. Remove the toner cartridge from the product and verify that the sealing tape has been removed.
2. Check the memory chip for damage.
3. Examine the surface of the imaging drum on the bottom of the toner cartridge.
CAUTION: Do not touch the roller (imaging drum) on the bottom of the cartridge.

Fingerprints on the imaging drum can cause print-quality problems.
4. If you see any scratches, fingerprints, toner or other damage on the imaging drum, replace the toner.
5. If the imaging drum does not appear to be damaged, rock the toner cartridge gently several times and reinstall it. Print a few pages to see if the problem has resolved.

Just to rule out a toner issue, you could try a Genuine HP Toner, just to see if you have the same results.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hello,

Regarding your list of tasks:

1. The sealing tape is removed.

2. How can I inspect the memory chip?

3. The surface of the imaging drum does not have damage such as dents or scratches.

4. There is toner on the imaging drum, you can check out the linked images.

5. I have already done this prior to posting the topic with no success, but I forgot to mention it.

Considering the 4th point, I assume the cartridge needs to be replaced. When it comes to printing, beyond the black page, there is properly printed content, so I assume the printer itself is okay, able to pick up information from the PC and deliver it to the cartridge.

Hi randomherrro,

Sorry for the late reply, I wasn't notified by email. I was searching for any unanswered posts and came across yours.

Thanks for providing the picture. It looks like a issue with the imaging drum.

If the toner is a Genuine HP toner, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836 and inquire about a replacement toner. Let them know you are calling in about a in warranty accessory.
