There is a setting in device manager under ports and it should be the LPT port, look for a checkbox that says use any available interrupt.

I've never actually done to fix myself but I have read about it a number of times ot is documented many on different HP older models on this forum.

As SHThompson

On my system the dot selected was "Never use an interrupt" - and my 1100a wouldn't work.

Good luck

Changing the port settings was only a temporary solution since the printer was working until next restart. Fortunately changing the port setting (to anything) again forced the port driver and the printer driver to reinstall, thus got the printer working.

Now the final solution has arrived from MS (or HP, whatever):
it seems the march update finally solved the problem for good, my printer works fine after restarting my pc, too.

I find a sulution ..

In Device manager > Ports (COM & LPT) > Printer port (LPTx) - Properties.

In tab Port Settings, check "Enable legacy Plug and Play detection"

It work in my case

In my build of Windows 10 (10586.164), under "Device Manager", there is no item "Ports & LPT", and therefore I cannot find LPT1 to change it.  I have searched everywhere to find a reference to how to make the Ports & LPT visible, but without success.

My HP Laserjet 1100 worked perfectly until this latest update but now I am completely stuck.  What can I do to find the Ports & LPT list ?

Thanks

Do you have a lpt port on the computer.  Most new computers do not have a lpt port and people with older printers use a usb to parallel adapter.  If you are using an adapter, then your issue is the adapter software and nothing to do with lpt ports.

Thanks for that.  No, I do not have a parallel port - I am using a USB adapter from the parallel connector on the HP LaserJet 1100.  There was no software with the adapter, but it worked A OK with the original build of Windows 10 - it is only since the last update that the problem has started.

Is there any way to check the USB settings in case there is soething similar wrong there like with LPT1 ?

Oh dear ! :Surprise:

Your post prompted me to think again hard about the problem.  I checked the USB properties and could find nothing obvious.  Then I thought that, as I use ethernet, the HP LaserJet 1100 must be connected to the network.   By USB ?  Well, of course not !   It had to be plugged directly into the laptop.

Suddenly, it dawned on me.   I have a USB hub neatly hiiden behind the screen into which the printer is plugged.  My remote mouse had been playing up, and so I disconnected the hub and plugged the mouse directly into a USB port instead of the hub.  That was a few days ago, which I had forgotten.

So prompted by your posting,  I looked behind the screen and sure enough the printer was not plugged in !    So I tried again, and hey presto the HP LaserJet is working A OK again.  Brilliant. :generic:

So thanks to you, all is now well.  I will rate your reply accordingly.

You have just described my exact problem.  My Laser Jet 1100 has been a workhorse and I'm not ready to give it up.  It worked fine after upgrading to Windows 10 but now it doesn't.  Not happy with this at all.  Will be interested in hearing what HP recommends.
