Hi, I have a CP1525nw that is giving me the aforementioned "engine comm. error" I have tried resetting to factory default settings as well as performing an NVRAM reset, neither of which solved the problem. I have tried to print status pages from both the built in web pages and the status menu on the printer both of which cause the printer to have a new error, 49, and then the printer reboots back to the "engine comm. error". I have tried to update the firmware over USB but because it is has the engine comm error it won't allow me to update the firmware. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated! Is this a problem that I can fix cheaply and easily or will the printer require HP service?

Thanks,

Neil

So I have discovered the problem. The printer was recently shipped to me and in transit the DC controller board was cracked and broken. So mystery solved. Thanks for the suggestions!

Neil, the particular information on this type of error I will disclose below. However, this does appear to be a power-related issue. Maybe changing where the printer is plugged in or how it is plugged in (for example, HP does NOT recommend plugging into a surge protector ) may change the issue you are having.

Just to let you know that this is a warning message only, but your job output might be affected.

Try plugging the printer into a different power outlet.

Try a different power cord.

Disconnect all cables EXCEPT the power cord, turn off and then turn the printer back on.

Check for any unremoved orange packaging within the unit.

If the problem continues, contact HP Customer Support Center for technical assistance at http://goo.gl/3pTg4 or see the flyer that came in the printer box for additional contact information.

Thanks for the reply! I have tried to plug the printer into a outlet and not a power strip this however did not help the problem. Also when attempting to print anything it results in an error 49 and the printer rebooting. I saw that this was possibly solved by a firmware update however because of the engine comm. error, when ever I try to run an update the application tells me the printer is busy.

Error 49 is caused by an internal error, most likely within the firmware. I would recommend performing a hard reset on the printer (unplugging the device entirely for 30 seconds), and attempting the firmware update again. There may be a conflict which has to be first resolved before the firmware can be applied.

Let me know if this helps!

Thanks again! I let the printer sit for more than 30 seconds before plugging it back in and had no luck trying the firmware update, it gave me the same response as earlier which was that the device was busy and you need to wait or clear the problem on the device.
