Hi, i am receiving Scanner error 13 on the printer LCD because of which i cant scan or copy documents.

I tried the HP print and scan test and on the WIA test it prompted me with a scan box when i clicked preview i received an error message saying that make sure that something else isnt using the scanner.

I receive this error even before plugging in the usb cable to my computer so i dont think it is related to windows or anything

Thanks

Hi identy15,

Sorry for the late reply.

I understand you aren't able to scan or copy.
I will be happy to help you.

I would do a power reset to see if that will resolve the issue. With the printer still turned on, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer. Then disconnect the power cable from the wall outlet. Wait 10 seconds and reconnect the power cable back to the wall outlet first, then the back of the printer and power it on again.

Make sure the printer is connected directly to wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)

Try and print a hardware self test. Disconnect any cables on the back of the printer except the power cable. Follow these steps:

  1. On the printer control panel, press the Setup button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons to select the Reports menu, and then press the OK button.
  3. Use the arrow buttons to select the Config report option, and then press the OK button.
Did the hardware self test print?

Now try and make a copy. Did it copy successfully?

Reconnect any other cables again to the back of the printer.
Now try and do a scan through the software.
Did it scan successfully?

If you are still having issues then please follow the steps below:

  • Go to the Start menu and select run.
  • Type services.msc and click OK.
  • Locate the 'Shell Hardware Detection' in the list. If it is not enabled/started, Make sure to enable/start the service. Also make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically from its properties.
  • Locate the 'Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)' in the list. If it is not enabled/started, Make sure to enable/start the service. Also make sure the Startup Type set as Automatically as well.
  • Locate the 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC)' in the list. If it is not enabled/started. Make sure to enable/start the service. Also make sure the Startup Type set to Automatically.

I believe that this will provide a resolution to your issue. Thank you.
