HP LaserJet P1006 Printer

I recently purchased a new Mac Mini w/ Apple M1 chip. The operating system is Mac OS Monterey ver. 12.3.1. I downloaded the driver for my HP 1006 that states that it will work with Monterey 12.0. After downloading the driver and clicking to unpack the driver package, I receive the following error message..."This update requires macOS version 12.0 or earlier". Do subsequent updates past Mac OS ver. 12.0  not work with current print driver for this machine? I have owned this printer for many years and it is still a great printer and works with my older Mac Book Pro running the last updated version of Catalina 10.15.7.

I am assuming that since the installation routine dialog launches prior to the appearance of the above mentioned error message, any updated Monterey version past 12.0 is incompatible with the current driver. Does anyone with HP know if an updated driver is in the works or someone in the HP support community has a workaround?

All helpful suggestions would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
