Hi,

Recently my printer keeps feeding paper even though it has caught on a paper. It will however stop feeding when half of the paper is printed. The problem is, when it keeps feeding paper, a second paper would get caught together with the first one (making it into a length of a 1 1/2 page length), causing a paper jam after the first page is printed.

By the way, when it keeps feeding paper, I can hear the loud thumping sound (paper feeding sound) repeating about 3 to 4 times.

How do I fix this?

Hi programatix,

Follow the steps in the document below to clean the pickup tires on this printer.

I've performed it before posting the question here and it doesn't solve the problem. From what I see, the printer should only pick up the paper once but in my case, it keeps picking up paper (can be seen and heard). Can changing the toner solve this?

Hi programatix,

Did you start having this issue right after changing the toner cartridge?

Does the paper jam or continue to feed completely through the printer?

Hi,

The issue doesn't start right after changing toner but if changing toner can fix this issue, I'll do so.

The paper actually doesn't jam but since it picks up the 2nd sheet of paper after the first one has passed through halfway, the printer would stop with paper jam alert.

Hi programatix,

This appear to be an issue with the seperation pad being dirty. Follow the steps in the document below to clean the seperation pad. Let me know if this resolves the multi-pick issue?

No I don't think that is the issue. The problem is, I can see that the printer keeps feeding for paper. When it feeds the paper, you can the mechanism pushing the paper from the tray upwards towards the feeder. It keeps doing this even though the paper has already entered.

Since it is hard to explain correctly, I've posted the video I captured regarding this issue at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_Zy6itsmp4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Thanks in advance.

Hi programatix,

Does this happen no matter how much paper you have loaded into the paper tray?

Print the demo page from the driver, and let me know if you have the same issue?

Printing a demo page

Follow the steps to print a demo page.
  1. Click Start .
  2. Click Printers and Faxes .
  3. Right-click HP LaserJet and then select Printing Preferences .
  4. Click the Services tab.
  5. Select Demo Page from the Print Information Pages drop-down menu.
  6. Click Print . The demo page prints.

Hi,

Yes, the problem also occurs no matter how much paper I loaded into the paper tray.

Printing the demo page from the driver has the same issue.

This is because the feeding process is not stopped even when the paper has already been fed. If I remember correctly, when I was using another model of HP LaserJet, there is a marker on top of the feeder. When the paper been successfully fed, it would touch this marker, and thus indicate to the printer that it should stop the feeding process. I found no such marker on this printer. Is it broken? or is it built into the toner?
