My HP LaserJet P1102w had been printing fine on a wireless network (I was able to print from all wireless devices on that network) until a few weeks ago when I downgraded my router firmware to fix an issue with another device.

After the firmware downgrade, my printer would show as connected to the network (both when I printed a test page and when I logged into my router and looked at the attached devices), but I could not print to it from any devices--my iPhone couldn't find it, and it showed as "offline" on the two computers attached to the network.

I upgraded my router firmware (back to what it was originally) but that did not fix the problem.  The printer is still connected to the network, but other devices don't seem to "see" it.

Any suggestions?  Thank you!

Hi fullfive ,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I understand the devices are not recognizing the printer after doing a update on the router.

I will be happy to help you.

Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are listed.
(hold down the x button and when the printer makes a noise let go)

If you have a valid IP address for the printer then try and access the embedded web server for the printer.

  • Type the IP address into internet explorer address bar.
  • If it loads the printer's network page then the printer is on the network.
  • Power cycle the computer, printer and router.
  • Try printing again.

Check the IP address on the computer to see if matches the printer's,

  • Go to start and select devices and printers.
  • Right click the printer and select printer properties, then select the ports tab.
  • Select configure port to see if the IP address matches the printer's IP address.

If the IP doesn't match then do the following to create a new port with the new IP address.

  • Select new port, click standard TCP/IP address, next.
  • Type in the IP address, next, finish.
  • Make sure printer is online by right clicking the printer, left click see whats printing.
  • Click the printer button at the top of the screen, make sure use printer offline isn't checked.
  • If it is click it to uncheck it.

Now test the printer.

If you still can't print and were unable to access the embedded web server then you will have to reset the printer and set it back up on the network again.

I would reset the printer first to clear out any previous network settings.

  • Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button).
  • While turning the printer  back on.
  • Don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
  • After the reset, disconnect the routers power cable, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable.
  • Wait till it's ready.

Since the software is already installed then I would setup the wireless again by connecting the printer by USB to the computer.

  • Then go to start, all programs, HP, Laserjet, wireless configuration wizard.
  • Follow the steps to setup the wireless.
  • When finished remove the USB cable.
  • Then try and print over the wireless network.

I believe that this will provide a resolution to your issue. Thank you.

I'm still having trouble.  By the way, I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8.

I did what you suggested and confirmed that the IP address on the printer configuration page matched what was in my printer setup screen on my computer, but I was still unable to print and also was unable to access the embedded web server.

I then re-set my printer ...  Still no luck.

I then went through the steps on this page:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02847467

And still am having trouble.  I hooked my printer up by USB, downloaded the software again and also did a firmware upgrade, installed the printer via USB then went through the steps of trying to use the Printer Utility and "HTML Config" to set up the printer, but when I click HTML config, I just get a browser window with a bunch of nonsensical HTML text.

I vaguely recall that at some point in the past I may have set up the printer wirelessly using Bonjour, but I don't see that as an option in any of my menus now.

I don't understand what's going on...  The printer says it's connected and when I log into my router it confirms that the printer is connected, but it's like none of my other devices (computer, iPhones, etc.) can see the printer even though they were able to before (I could print before from my phones using AirPrint).

Please help...

Thanks!

Hi fullfive,

Thanks for providing that information. I have provided steps for the Mac.

I would verify and repair the disk permission on the Mac.

On the Apple menu bar, click Go, applications, utilities, disk utility, click on Mac harddrive on the left side, click on verify disk permissions, when that is finished click repair disk permissions.
(when it is finished it will show disk repair completed)

Make sure Safari is the default web browser to allow the html to open.

Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.

Have the printer connected to the Mac and in a ready state, you might have to reset the printer again back to factory settings. Try running the html again.

If you are still having issues then try and open the html by following these steps:

On the Apple menu bar, click Go, computer, Mac hardrive, Library,

Printers, HP, LaserJet, click on the folder for your printer, click on EWS browser or HTML config,

click the Networking tab, click wireless on the left and fill out your information.

(make sure infrastructure is selected)

The go back into print and fax (print and scan) and add the printer.

Try printing over the wireless network.

Hope this helps get you up and running.

Have a nice day!

My problem with the printer is the same as related. Cause is that i moved to a different network and the printer (per print out) still thinks I am at the earlier address. No luck resetting printer or rebooting DSL.
I followed the recommended sequence "Printers, HP, LaserJet, click on the folder for your printer, click on EWS browser or HTML config,
That screen shows a black box with exec in green letters. There are no tabs for me to proceed further.with "click the Networking tab, click wireless on the left and fill out your information."
What should I try next?

Hi @jamesad,

I see that you are having issues running the HTML Config. I can help you today.

What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?

Try resetting the printer again.

You may have to run a firmware update on the printer by a USB connection. Software and Drivers.

Then try the reset again. If the old information for the network is still showing, then it won't connect to the new one.

Make sure Safari is the default web browser to allow the HTML to open.

Sometimes you have to delete the USB driver and add it back in again for the HTML to open properly.

I am having the same problem.  I have an HP laptop running Windows 7, and am attempting to print to an HP 1102W wirelessly.  I've followed the advice on these previous posts.  The IP address shown for the printer is confirmed in the laptop.  Once in 10-15 attempts I can randomly print a document.  Your help on previous posts stopped with the IP address being incorrect.  Mine is correct.  What do I do next?  Thanks.

Hi @tbarsto,

Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you are having issues printing from the wireless network. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.

Please try the steps in this document, to see if it will help resolve the issue for intermittent printing.

HP Printers - 'Offline' Printer Status Message Displays (Windows 7).

What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print, any error messages)

I would also suggest to setup a static IP address for the printer. Go to Solution four: Assign your printer a static IP addressHP Printers - Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.

Please let me know the results. Have a nice day! Thank you.

I  have a related problem.  Just bought a new laserjet M277 for use at home.  Set it up downstairs and it prints fine. Powered off and moved it into the upstairs office and it won't connect.  It is in exacty the same place as the previous Lexmark printer which worked reliably for many years.  Have I omitted to do something?

Thanks,

Mike
