So I've got an HP LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw. Have trouble activating the scan to computer option. Here's my setup:

One desktop computer and three laptops are connected to a local network. The desktop pc is wired to the network, all three laptops are connected wirelessly. The HP machine is wirelessly connected to the same network and also connected via USB to the destop pc. When I try the "scan to computer" option, I get the message that I should activate this function on the computer. Well, there's simply no such option. Here's a screenshot:

I also looked in the bin directory of the printer software but found nothing that looks like scan to computer:

So what am I doing wrong? Please help! Hope to hear from a member of the HP staff.

There's also something else - I can't seem to get the scan to network folder function working. I've specified a network folder, it has been shared with everyone (read/write access), all computers on the network have acces to it, but the printer fails to access it. The test in the HP device toolbox is also unsuccessful. What is the problem here?

Thanks!

Hi,

Please clarify your exact steps while trying to scan, as the specific model does not provide a Scan to Computer feature.

You may either scan to a shared network forlder or launch the scan from the PC through the HP Scan Software.

Please clarify your pritner's firmware version - is it version 20121026 or any older version?

You may find the current firmware version by printing a system configuration report as shown below:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03312263

If it's an older version, be sure to update it by using the tool below:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=kj-108130-3&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...

If the issues persists please clarify accordingly, as well be sure to clarify the operating system used on the PC you are trying to set the network folder scanning for, that may help ensuring the configuration accordingly.

Hello ,

thank you for your help. In the meantime I performed a complete uninstall of all HP software on my computer and reinstalled the complete software package for the printer. Now scan to network folder works. What is left is the Scan to Computer feature which still isn't working. About the information you requested:

1. Firmware Version: 20121026

2. Operating system: Windows 7 64-bit

3. The steps I perform while trying to scan:

3.1. On the device touchscreen I select Scan

3.2. The following options appear: Scan to USB drive, Scan to Computer, Scan to Network Folder, Scan to Email

3.3. I select Scan to Computer

3.4. One of the wirelessly connected laptops appears, however the desktop pc that is connected via USB is not there. As you can see from the screenshot in my first post, there is also no such option in the printer settings. Please help.

Thanks!

Thank you for clarifying.

It seems a bit weird for me that the option appears on the printer, as much as I aware the specific series as any other consumer Laserjet models should not provide the specific (Scan to Computer) feature..

As a reference the User Guide also does not indicate any such feature for your product:

(any of the scan capabilities can be found listed under Page 69)

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02851622.pdf

I will double check it by testing as soon as I'm back at the office anyway...

Anyway, the wirelessly connected computer actually allow scanning by selecting it under the Scan to Computer and the scan completed successfully?

Additionally try the following for now on the USB connected PC and check if that may help:

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Search for Scanners and Cameras and click on View scanners and Cameras
  3. Select the M276 and click on Properties
  4. Open the Events tab
  5. Check the box next to Start this program and select HP Scan from the drop list menu.

Try scanning and check if that may help.

I will keep you posted on the next week anyway if this feaure should actually work or appear on the menu, I'm quite sure it should not be available for this model.

Hello,

thank's again for being so helpful. From what I understand, the printer firmware has the scan to computer option but the pc software doesn't have it.

When scan to computer is selected (via the printer touchscreen) just one of  the three wirelessly connected laptops appear but the scan doesn't finish successfully (error message comes up that computer cannot be found).

I tried what you suggested up to step 3, but there was no Events tab.

Looking forward to your feedback if this option should be there in the first place. If not, the next firmware upgrade should remove it from the printer menu because it confuses users.

That is hilarious! LOL. I have just bought, opened and installed the same printer and have the same issue! Have you had any more feedback on this?

I'm having the same issue. We just got this model in our new office and it's been driving me crazy... "Scan to Computer" is clearly an option on the printer itself, but nowhere in the software or user manual. Scanning can be initiated from a PC using HP Scan, but our Administrative Assistants heavily relied on the Scan to Computer option on our previous Brother scanners. I hope HP will address this and fix it.

I have the same problem. All of a sudden today, my ability to scan using the desktop icon has stopped.  I get the following message:

undefined

I've rebooted the laptop and the printer several times but to no avail. Also, have moved the USB physical connection around to different USB ports. BTW, the laptop (HP) is on a docking station and physically connected to the printer via a USB cable.

Appreciate any help!

I also have the problem, when you select the "Scan" icon on the home menu, it brings up the Scan Menu which has 4 entries:

1) Scan to USB Drive

2) Scan to Computer

3) Scan to Network Folder

4) Scan to E-mail

Now if we were to believe you Shlomil, we are all hallucinating that second option!

This option may not appear in your documentation and it is also clearly missing

in the User Guide available on the HP site but it certainly shows on our actual printer.

In my situation, I have a MAC and a PC connected wirelessly to my network.

If I select that option with my PC turned OFF, I get the "No Computer Found" error

If I select that option with my PC turned ON, I get 5 choices to scan on the PC:

1) Scan to "PC-Name"

2) Scan for Print to "PC-Name"

3) Scan for E-mail to "PC-Name"

4) Scan for Fax to "PC-Name"

5) Scan for OCR to "PC-Name"

Unfortunately, when my MAC is ON (and able to print to the LaserJet 200 I might add),

the MAC is never recognized as a possibility in the Scan to Computer menu.

Welcome to the HP Forums Cloyne,

I see by your post that you aren't able to scan to computer, the Mac is never recognized as a possibility in the Scan to Computer menu. I can help you with this.

Please provide the firmware version on the printer. Printing a Configuration Report.

The latest firmware online is 2014-06-04 , Version20140521.

Here is a document which shows the features available for scanning from the control panel.

The scanning to computer isn't listed. This model didn't originally come with this feature.

How to Scan: From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Network Folder).

I will check into this further, to find out if the new firmware allows this feature.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.
