Bought this printer today.
It also has the option to "Scan to computer"
To avoid any "it is not possible" from HP people:
Now here's the clue: I didn't have this menu when I started installing it. It only showed the 3 other options, not the "scan to computer". It is only when I configured the printer on the computer, that it appeared. So it might be because of the driver software, I don't know... But anyways, the item is there and I'm intrigued to know how to get it to work.
This thread has been open for a long time now, how about solving the thingy? 😛
Firmware datecode is 20140919
Best regards,
stefc

Hi @stefc ,
I see by your post that you would like to know how to scan from the printer to the computer. I will do my best to help you.
What operating system are you using?
How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
The printer needs to be connected to the network. Select the Scan to Computer on the printer and select your network name to scan directly to the computer.
Can you scan from the HP Scan Software?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hi Gemini,
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit. The printer is connected through WiFi only. I can scan from within the HP application.
Weird thing is, I have restarted the printer today, and the menu "Scan to PC" has gone now. I have not tried re-installing the software to verify if the menu pops up again.
I scan to my NAS now, it was easily set up. And I'm not sure if I would ever use the "Scan to computer" option now I have the network folder set up. But I was curious, and also wanted to show that it is not a mistake, the printer does actually show such a menu in some cases.
Best regards,
Stef

I'm having the same issue scanning over the network. I have two users on an IP/Ethernet network. Both used the driver software to setup the printer. One user can open HP scan software and the other can not.
both can Print over IP.
HP support can't be bothered to help. The "laserjet" dept wiill transfer you to the networking dept. or say they can't help you.

Hi @wsavacool ,
I see that you are having issues opening the HP Scan Software on the one computer. I can help you, but I will need some more information to provide you with the proper steps.
In the mean time, if you are using Windows, download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. http://www.hp.com/go/tools>Using HP Diagnostic Tools for HP Printers in Windows.
If you are using a Mac, please try the following:
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
Restart the computer..
Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
What operating system are you using?
How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
Were you able to open and scan with the HP Scan Software?
Try scanning from another application.
Please let me know the results.
Have a nice day!
Thank You.
