Hello,
I have some difficulties with a HP LaserJet p2055dn and its firmware.
The reason I need to upgrade the firmware is that the printer lost its hardware address / MAC adress and network printing became impossible. There is also an errorcode everytime the printer is active for more than 5 minutes that says "84 Error 1D31".
A lot of people on forums advise to upgrade the Firmware so that's what I'm trying to do.
Right now I have installed the Firmware 20090430. I'm trying to install the new one.
The first weird thing is this sentence in the installing instruction:
" Be sure to use the correct update utility for your printer. HP LaserJet P2055dn and P2055x printers require the program which contains P2055dn_FW in its name. HP LaserJet P2055 and P2055d printers require the program which contains P2055_FW in its name. "
I can't find a firmware version with P2055dn_FW in it, so I stick to the one downloadable from the HP site.
The Model no. is J8017E, this is not listed under "readme" on the downloadsite so could it be that this is the reason I always get the errormessage "FATAL ERROR, PLEASE CONTACT HP SUPPORT" when I try to install the new Firmware?
The Update Utility always says the installation was successful, but it still states that the Firmware is from 2009 and the described problems still persist.
Is there anything I can do to get the printer to set the MAC address and stop sending this Errorcode all the time?
Thanks in advance,
Lou.

Hi,
I understand that you are having issues with your p2055dn. First, use the instructions on page one, to enter into the Secondary Service Menu. Next, go to the 'Ethernet reset' option, this should resolve your issue.
If not, please continue to the bottom of the page and conduct an NVRAM. It is very important that you read the warning, as this option will reset your device to the factory settings.
I hope this helps
