Hello! I am sorry to hear you having trouble loading envelopes to your M401. For envelopes, you need to use Tray 1. Please refer the the user guide on pages 14-20 on how to load in the imput trays.

Thanks for confirming you are using Tray 1. Have you tried feeding one at a time? Help feed the envelope?
Here are other suggestions.
- Try cleaning off the pickup rollers on Tray 1.
- Use a damp rag or a solution of rubbing alchohol to clear off any dust or debris causing the roller to slip.
- Find a different kind of envelope to print on.
