i spent several hours on tech support with Dell (we have a service contract with them for our servers) and told them about this issue.

they ran server setting diagnostics as well as local client diagnostics on the 'sick' computers and said everything was configured correctly. they also gave other advice on how to remedy the problem, but to no luck.

I am going to contact HP today to see if I can get any news. The only other thing after that is contact Microsoft direct.

UPDATE!!!!!!!

we found success for this problem! i was advised to make sure .net framework 3.5 was installed. I had assumed that after countless Windows Updates that it got put on, but alas, NEGATIVE!

i manually installed 3.5, and now I can print!!!!!!! Hopefully this may help some of you!

Hello,

We're also havind similar problems in our hosting environment. (2008R2)

We host an application for a couple of thousand users and we see a growing amount of printer problems, not being able to print from our RemoteApp environment, whilst locally the printer seems to work just fine.

In our experience, this error mainly exists in the HP LJ 1xxx series, with the 1020,1022, 1120,1212,1217,1606 being the models that seem to pop up a lot.

Previously it seemed that this problem could be fixed by Installing the XPS update for the certain models, but this left a few models that didn't have this update out. We offer both RDS and Citrix methods of connecting to our application and Citrix seems to be a little bit better in supporting these printers, but some (1020) won't work at all.

For our environment using the printer drivers is not an option since this drastically increases tha chance of the printer spooler crashing (printer drivers from 150 users per server is a big risk) and thus no-one on one of our servers will be able to print, this is an experience we acquired from previous version of our setup, thus we chose for TS easy print.

It gets more complicated because more often than not,  lately we get the remark from our users that their not-working printer...did work before...and as of lately, installing the XPS driver update often doesnt seem to help anymore either...(i just installed the 1606dn directly from the XPS update file, but it doesnt give me a 'save file' popup...well not through RDS, using Citrix it does...)

One of the first ways I also test this with our client's model, is to add the printer locally on my own laptop (win7pro x64) and set it to print to file.

Then I try it locally (works) and next i login to our environment and try to print somsething, no output file popup...

While with Citrix or any other printer I do get a popup where I want to save the file... (i.e. an OfficeJet 4500)

Any ideas are appreciated, we've kinda had it with these insolvable, inadequate problems which take up a lot of time and seem to be driver specific...

Next thing is to see if working with a 3rd party app like TSprint would be of any help, but these don't come for free...

Cheers!

Nicky

(i read about the 1018 drivers for a 1020 model just here, will try that first thing)

Hello.

I found 2 solutions that worked fine from Windows 7 clients (32/64 bits)

1) Use the Universal Print Drivers PCL5 on your Windows client

2) remove the GPO that foce RDS Servers to use Easy print driver first

create a GPO for all domain users that use Easy Print Driver first

Composants Windows/Services Bureau à distance/Hôte de la session Bureau à distance/Redirection de l'imprimante/
Utiliser d'abord le pilote d'imprimante Easy Print des services Bureau à distance:Activé
Create a GPO for a security group (users that have a Laserjet 1022) that don't use Easy Print Driver first

Composants Windows/Services Bureau à distance/Hôte de la session Bureau à distance/Redirection de l'imprimante/
Utiliser d'abord le pilote d'imprimante Easy Print des services Bureau à distance:Désactivé

After installing Laserjet 1022 driver on your RDS Server (2008 R2 64bits), the printer works fine

Bye
