Hello mt3,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand you're unable to automatically receive faxes using the Laserjet 1536dnf MFP. I will do my best to assist you! What connection type do you have? Analog fax connection, Phone line with ADSL fax connection or VoIP network fax connection? If you're unsure, then please follow this HP document on Cannot Send or Receive Faxes. Click on "How Do I know which connection type I am using".

Also, I need to know what type of added features you have on your fax phone line. (Example):

1) Do you have an answer machine? How many rings to answer does this feature have?

2) Do you have a voice mail?

3) Do you have a separate fax line?

I would recommend following that entire HP document above, which provides valid troubleshooting steps. The key steps to perform are "Disable Error Correction Mode": (This information is stated here.)

  1. On the product control panel, press the Setup button ( ).
  2. Use the Arrow buttons ( ) to select Service , and then press the OK button.
  3. Use the Arrow buttons ( ) to select Fax Service , and then press the OK button.
  4. Use the Arrow buttons ( ) to select Error Correction , and then press the OK button.
  5. Use the Arrow buttons ( ) to select Off , and then press the OK button.

Try "Restoring Factory Defaults and Run Setup" which is also stated from this document.

Looking forward to hearing from you! Have a great day! Smiley Happy
