I have determined my printer goes "offline" for some reason, after 1 hour. It loses its connection to the network. I have tried:
- Updating firmware
- Uninstalling/reinstalling software
- Setting a fixed IP
- Constant pinging of the IP address (which lasted for 1 hour, then timed out afterwards)
This printer is connected wirelessly to our network. I have added a reserved IP on our server and have assigned it the MAC address of the printer. The printer has been assigned this static IP via the web interface of the printer.
Has anyone managed to keep this printer "alive" for more than 1 hour on a wireless network?

Hi TENEmployee,
The printer is designed to go into a low power saving mode after it has not been in use. When you send a print job to the printer is should wake out of sleep mode to process the job. When the printer goes to an offline mode run the utility below.
HP designed a quick and easy tool that diagnoses and resolves many printing, scanning, and connectivity problems: The HP Print and Scan Doctor. HP recommends that you download and install the Print and Scan Doctor any time you need to troubleshoot a problem with your HP printer from the link below.
Let me know what errors you receive?

When I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (v3.0) the following happens:
On the Welcome page it shows the HP P1102w as installed.
When I click Next, it eventually comes up with the options USB, Network-Wireless, and Network-Wired.
I click on Network-Wireless, and then asks me to Retry
It goes back to the first result.
Is there any way to disable this "low power saving mode"?

Connect the printer to your computer using the USB cable, and let me know if you experience the same issues?

Hi TENEmployee,
Thank you for the update. Let’s try setting up a static IP address to see if the issue persists. Let me know what you find out?
Assign your HP product a static IP address
-
Refer to the network configuration page or the wireless network test report that you printed in Step one, and locate the IP address of the HP product.
-
Open a new Internet browser window, and type the IP address of the HP product in the browser's address bar, and then press Enter . A web page displays, showing the internal settings of the HP product.
-
Click the Networking tab, click the Wireless tab, and then click the IPv4 tab. (Your menu path might be slightly different, depending on your HP product model.) A new settings page displays.
-
On the page that displays, make the following changes:
-
Set a Manual IP : Your wireless router automatically sets an IP address within a specific range (called the DHCP range). If you know what the DHCP range is, set an IP address in which the last set of numbers is outside that range, but no higher than 254. Keep the first three sets of numbers the same. If you do not know the DHCP range, select a fairly high IP address, like 250 (again, for the last set of numbers). To learn about your router's DHCP range, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or wireless router manufacturer.
-
Set subnet address : Use 255.255.255.0, unless you know that it is different, in which case you should use that number.
-
Set the gateway address and the first DNS : Enter your router's IP (can be found on the network configuration page or the wireless network test report).NOTE:Leave the second DNS field blank.
-
-
Click Apply . The screen will not refresh. If you changed the HP product's IP address from what you typed into your Internet browser, you will have to type in the new IP address to access the HP product. If you did not change the HP product's IP address, wait 30 seconds after clicking Apply, and then click the Refresh button in your browser.
-
Print another network configuration page (or wireless network test report) from the control panel on your HP product to verify that the product's IP address is what you assigned.
-
Turn off the wireless router. If the wireless router does not have a power button, disconnect the power cord on the router to turn it off.
-
Press the Power button (
) on the HP product to turn it off.
-
Turn the wireless router back on. If the wireless router does not have a power button, reconnect the power cord to the router to turn it on.
-
Press the Power button (
) on the HP product to turn it on again.
-
If you changed your HP product's IP address, there might be an additional step needed, depending on your printer model (this step applies only to Windows users):Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
-
If your HP product is connected to the wireless network, and you are able to print and scan , there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
-
If your HP product is connected to the wireless network, but you are still not able to print or scan , continue to the next step.

Ok, please see my original post. It states that I tried "- Setting a fixed IP"
The printer works fine for EXACTLY one hour, no matter whether it is set to automatically assign an IP address, or whether it is static.
The printer is in an office environment, and I have set up an IP address on our DHCP server as well, using the printer's MAC address, so that even if it were to be set to automatic, it will only ever get that particular IP address.

I apologize, I forgot you had mentioned the fixed IP address. Since you are not seeing this issue while the printer is connected USB then this is a possible indication of a communication issue with your work network. At this point we need to isolate the work network environment causing the issue you are having. The easiest way to accomplish this task is to connect the printer to a standalone router (Example: Linksys Cisco or Netgear), and then see if you experience the same issue seen on your work network. The other option is to take the printer to a different network other than your work network to see if you experience the same issues. Let me know what you find out?
